well here are the pictures, sorry for making another thread but i figured ppl would stop reading the old one after it had been somewhat settled.

here are the pics, the hood, front bumper and driverside fender were painted.

when i called to ask how the car was going he told me they were 'still rubbing the paint out' and it would be ready in a few hours. what were they doing? note the twistie-like holograms (pic 2 & 4 )

tell me what u guys think, how severe does this look? i think it looks worse than when back in the day i used to wipe dirt off the car with a rag. (thankfully i found this site..)

Yes there are swirls. However, I don't belive they are as severe, in terms of how deep, as they were before you got the paint job. Try something like SSR1 with a light cutting or SSR2 with a polishing first and see where you can go from there.

okay well i went up to murrays an autozone, autozone didnt have crap, but murrays had #2, #3, #7, #26 an someother one. I didn't see a #5 though. I want to have this tested soon, quicker the better. IHG is 3m imperial hand glaze right? I didn't see that either. what would you guys recommend?

That looks unforgivably bad, but not unfixable. Man, I'd *NEVER* go back to that shop. I'd stop payment on the check. I'd be pretty ticked off to say the least. But anyhow...

Get an abrasive polish or two, ones that don't contain wax. I'd go with 3M PI-III RC (05933) and MG (05937) or their PI-3000 equivalents. Use these to get the holograms/swirls out.

Then use the Meg's #3 (best of the ones you listed IMO, and it works fine by hand) to protect the fresh paint until it finishes curing.

crappy.. i went and they didnt have any of thoes 3M ones.. they had a similar sounding one, but the serial number was way off. looks like im gonna have to order off the internet again..garr. well now i guess im open to all options, what would be the best things to get?

Try any of the body shop supply stores around you. You should be able to get the 3M products Accumulator recommended.

Your paint has the typical body shop installed by an idiot with a rotary swirls.

This old Mercedes was recently painted and had body shop installed swirls for no extra charge. They looked a lot worse than what you show and Mike Philips at Meguiars polished half the hood with Meg's #80 (a very mild polish) using a PC buffer and followed up with NXT Tech Wax. I think #83 would have done a better job but he was trying to prove that even a mild product like #80 can do a good job -

80 worked Great on my Black Camaro SS swirls. And the 3M products Accumulator is talking about works better !! I found all 3 of those products at a paint supply store in our super small town.

I'd choose the 3M PI-III twins over similar Meg's products, including #83. You could use #80 after the PI-III MG if you wanted to. IMO you oughta do most of the work with the PI-III RC (05933).

The Meg's #3 is a final glaze, no abrasives, just somthing to use until you can wax/seal it. Use this (or #5, #81, or #7) after you do all the *abrasive* polishing.

The PC oughta do OK if you a) take plenty of time and b) use 4" pads for the worst marring.

I haven't used a cutting pad on a PC in ages, but the organge "light cutting" should work well for this (the severe correction). Then switch to a polishing pad for the last passes with the RC and for the MG/#80.

I got my last order of 3M stuff from HERE

I ordered my 3M IHG from here and was very impressed with their service and prices.

FWIW the swirls don't look unfixable. My car looked a lot like that when it was repainted. Just be patient and you'll be able to fix it.
