they got there bc i was a dumb *** and didnt know how to wash correctly and to use some type of qd when i dusted/touched the car with something other than my wash mitt. at least that is how some of them got there. the others just came from time and such. i got some out using ss1 and will post pics later. it got too hot and the polish was drying b4 i could get it off, since i have no shade. being that the car is black it doesnt help. i got the right side done but thats it.
 
I am with you and the black car thing duder, ye they show every little thing don't they. Still gotta love a black car when clean though :) SSR1 seems very mild to me, are you having success with it? What type of pad did you use?
 
That isn't bad and Toyota's paint is easy to work with. Even so, I'm not sure SSR1 will be abrasive enough to remove the marring.



Are you doing this by hand or PC?
 
Greg, its his first time with the PC so he started off with SSR 1 & a green Propel pad. I agree that SSR 2.5 will be needed - if not something stronger. When we attacked it last year it kept raining which kept the diminishing abrasives in SSR 2.5 from breaking down.



As he gets more comfortable with the PC he can attack the swirls and watermarks with something more aggressive. If I can ever get my car done again I'll help him...it seems like I'm sick every time the weather is good.
 
damn straight, come on todd DONT GET SICK UNLESS ITS RAINING! lol j/k buddy, i hope you feel better soon. Yes this is my first time using the pc and actaully i was using a blue propel, but it didnt matter b/c as i stated the paint got too hot and the polish was drying and curing b4 i could get it to break down. any suggestions for this one? the ssr1 was not good enough but it diminished the wash marring from improper/ dusting/qd use from times past. I'm going to go at it again hopefully on monday assuming the weather is good. i got the right side down but it looks horrendeous since i ran out of time. Ill post afters as soon as i can finish it. I may just wait on the ss2.5 seeing as we may use my car for the april vender meet. I think with all the etching and what not it would be a great car to use for examples.
 
If the blue pad is like my blue sonus pad then it is a polishing pad and that in conjunction with SSR1 is probably the reason you had little success. A slightly courser pad, and SSR2.5 should start to give you some results, this may leave a slight marring of the surface, which you can easily remove with the polishing pad and SSR1 or AIO etc.



If its drying out too fast, try and do the car in the shade, and you could also add a spritz of water onto the pad to act as a lube, which should give you a little more time to 'work' the product.

Actually you should not use water with diminishing abrasives. It will prevent them from breaking down properly.
 
wow, true, i had been spritzing with qd. i wont do that then. im gonna go at the quarter panel with the green pad and ssr1. in a few. can i use the same pad for ss2.5 and 1?
 
You could use the same pad to go from SSR 1 to SSR 2.5 however you should not go from SSR 2.5 back down to SSR 1 without cleaning the pad. I really prefer to use separate pads...which is why I have so many!



I'd step down to a polishing pad for the SSR 1 after using SSR 2.5 with a cutting pad...this should be helpful in removing any micromarring induced by the SSR 2.5.



Sorry, but I can't remember how many of each pad you have.



Steve told me about the effect of water on diminishing abrasives afer our go at it last year...he ought to know.

Actually it depends which abrasives, in this case you are possibly correct, as I do not know what SSR is made from. However, if you use Menzerna as I do then it is fine to use water as a lube (as menzerna products are water based). I did forget myself here, and suggested water based on the products I used, rather than randomman84's products so thanks for pointing that out.

i used ssr 2.5 with the green pad and no water today and it came out a lot better. Ill take some pics when the sun comes up. only got one side done, bc i took forever and got caught on the phone. i got the hood done but it needs to be done twice. the abrasives seemed less responsive as the temp dropped and the sun went away so we will see what happens in the morning.
