swirl x and m205

I bought the megs porter cable kit which comes with m105 m205 orange and gray pads. After reading I don't want to use the m105 cause my paint isn't that bad so I would like something a little less aggressive than m105 and ill follow it with the m205.



Would swirl x be a good choice?



I believe swirl x had a rating of 7 while m205 was a 4 on the abrasives chart
 
SwirlX is fairly close to 205. 105 isn't crazy aggressive anyway. Mask off a small test area and see if 205 is enough. If not, don't be afraid to step up to 105.
 
why? you aren't going to strip your paint. watch some 'tube video's of guys doing this. They will show you how to do it. hit it with 205 on a mild pad, if its still there, go to a slightly more abrasive pad, still there, M105 on an orange pad, still there? wet-sand 1500-2000, then 105, then 205. just don't take too much off ;) . if it's just a lone wolf scratch then don't try and get it down all the way
 
Alright I just didn't want to over polish my paint with the 105 cause on the abrasive scale it was a 12. Maybe I should just not spend a lot of time buffing with the 105
 
For your situation I would recommend Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (forget the SwirlX). UC is far more user-friendly than M105, as well as being less aggressive. You may or may not need to follow-up with M205. UC often leaves the paint LSP-ready; but further refinement by M205 certainly can't hurt. And don't forget to do a test spot. If UC doesn't effect the level of paint correction that you need, then consider moving up to M105.
 
Don't be afraid of the 105 and I wouldn't waste money on another product. Use the 205 and if it's not aggressive enough then do a short set with 105. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.
 
I've used UC when required and frankly it does a great job but have found that it needs a #205 pass to "do it right." I haven't been satisfied enough to go directly from UC - LSP. YMMV
 
....I have used all three (M105, M205 and UC). Frankly, I find myself reaching for UC more than M105.



I agree with akimel in regard to its ease of use over M105 (at least in my experience). ....and while it does finish surprisingly well via DA, I agree with addysdaddy about following up with a finishing polish for best results (again, IME). UC fits nicely between M205 and M105 for me. I rarely need to step beyond UC for most of my own applications.
 
I find 105 finishes better for me on "most" paints with a MEgs MF cutting disc than a foam pad. Then 205 on and OJ or white pad and its beautiful. Although UNO on MF is just pure sexiness.
