Swirl City

This is a 2 year old Mercedes 320 Sedan, The first pic is what the entire car looked like when I got it. Hood, roof, sides, the works,. Looked like someone took a chain saw to it. Sorry I did not take an after pic of the hood, but the trunk was as bad or worse. I was so tried after spending 7 hours on this car, (using 6 steps) that I was seeing double. I HATE SWIRLS. First car I ever got a $100 tip for. Gary

Looks great! What products did you use? Did you do it by hand, PC, rotary or combination.

With Aloha,

Ranney :)

After preping the car with wash and clay. I tried a few different products/techniqes on a small section first. Since I got some samples from a Car-Brite seminar I attended (Perfect Cut, Cutting Glaze) I gave it a try with the rotary with both. Was not impressed. So I went with Meguirs Med cut with a yellow pad at about 1400 RMP.s It cleaned up some of the major imperfections, but still needed additional correction. I then went to HI-Temp Light cut recommended By Anthony O which is just what the doctor ordered. Oh, used a rotary again with that. Next Poorboys swirl remover with the Cyclo (green pad) WOW, I was really making progress now. Followed with Poorboys EX and what you see is a great finish. Used the DAPC with the EX. Used 3 different machines to obtain what you see. Sometimes if you want perfection, you have to try different things, take your time, and understand it may take longer than usual. I wrote down a maintainence plan for the owner so it doesn''t get of of hand. well received. Gary

If you really want to see some impressive results Gary and have ease of use you should try the following:

- Autoglym product 02b "Ultrafine Renovator"

- Valugard genuine lambswool polishing pad

- trigger sprayer filled with water

Wash vehicle, remove contaminants with clay if necessary. Begin polishing with a dime sized spot of 02B working a one square foot area until product begins to dry (1500 rpm). Lightly mist with water to moisten product and continue polishing in this fashion until product is nearly gone. Remove excess product and assess finish and repeat if necessary. Once the entire vehicle is finished assess the finish and if necessary follow up by polishing with a black 3M waffle pad and Autoglym "Radiant Wax" to increase depth and clarity. There will be no swirls after the first step if done correctly but just to be safe use step 2. Apply a light coat of Autoglym "Radiant Wax" or your favourite wax or sealant and you're all done.

I used to use Car Brite product for everything but found their comppounds/polishes/waxes to be lacking. Since I switched to the Autoglym stuff I have an easier time achieving the results I want and the results are incredible.

Check out a couple of cars I used this process on:

Finally!!!

Another person who uses Ultrafine Renovator. Been using it for years and I love it. One of the best "light compounds". Radiant Wax is another great product.

Have you tried Super Glym and/or Liquid Hardwax??? 90% of the products I use now are AG Professional or Bodyshop range. Glad to meet another AG enthusiast.

Those products produce the most outstanding results I have ever seen. The ultrafine renovator is basically all I use now unless the paint is REALLY chewed up and it produces such a nice and most importantly - swirl free finish. Autoglym rules.

Ok, I'm convinced to try it, where do you order it, and how much is it? wholesale or retail item? Gary I thought AG was a retail NOT pro line. maybe I have my head up a tree. set me straight , Thanks Gary

THosse results were superb! Im now interested in trying these products as well, where can we get them? How well does that renovator work with a foam pad?

I don't know where you can find Autoglym products in the US but their website is http://www.autoglym.co.uk/index2.html. The buffing products are part of their bodyshop line. Here is a link to the Canadian site so you can see the bodyshop line:

They work fine but for cutting I prefer a 100% genuine lambswool pad and follow up with foam if necessary. The 100% lambswool pad is from Valugard and they can be found here:

The pad is *Velcro Mount - VG-810-G

If you are on East Coast I recommend Radiant Auto Supply (Nashville, TN). They are the US direct importer of Autoglym from UK. Phone order only, 615-370-0970. They carry the full retail, professional and bodyshop lines. Murray will answer any questions on products or application.

For those of you on West Coast, RAS has a distributor there it's www.detailingdepot.com (949-574-7676). I think they are in Costa Mesa, CA. They also offer the full lines of Autoglym products.

If you are somewhere in between East Coast and West Coast, you might wanna call up RAS because they also have some other local distributors.
