Suspension drives me crazy!

I am trying to figure out what spring to drop my car with and I am going nuts! It is between these two..Tein H. Tech and Tein S. Tech springs. The H. Techs lower .7" front and .8" rear and the S. Techs lower 1.3" front and 1.4" rear are are a little stiffer than the H. Techs. However, it appears that if I lower using the S. Techs I may rub the fenders. I have 17x7.5" wheels with a 45mm offset. I want these springs now but can not make up what ones to get!

Hmmm choices choices when it comes to modding your car eh?:Pi would go with the s tech springs but since youre worried about your tires rubbing then go with the other. How tall/wide of a tire are you running on?If you really cant make up your mind about what springs to settle with then you can always skip it for now and save some cash to get yourself a nice little coilover setup from tein.I dont know if you like to fool around so much with any damping but you can always get the basic kit with height adjustabilty but no damping adjustability and from then on you can adjust the height to how low/high you want your stance to be.From your current setup right now,you may have to get some spacers if you do go with a coilover setup.

Oops, my tire size is 215/45/17. If I go with spacers my wheels would really rub th fender cause the part I am worried about them rubbing is the rear fender lip.

tooo may choices.

at least you have suspension upgrades available for your ride...I can't find anything..

I'm starting to look into a custom air ride setup...

Sorry but i meant to say that when if you do get coilovers some rims wont clear, thast why i say the need for spacers.Right now on 89 240 im running 205/17/40 on the front with 215/45 on the back with no rubbing at all.Later on ill be upgrading the front to run the same setup as the rears.

Thanks Everyone!

Wifehatescar, I think, since I have to ride on stock shocks for now, I will be getting the H. Techs. Tein told me that they are a little stiffer than stock and my main concern is having a car that is fun to drive and not one so low I can not drive it. Thsi will be a cheap option until I can afford either a little lower drop with shocks (when shocks come out for my car) or Tein full coilovers.

Just be prepared for a worse ride (maybe). I'm sure others have said it but any increase in rates usually really can use upgraded dampners. (not to mention the stockers will wear out quicker from what I read)

Yeah, I think the stock struts and shocks will last a little while with the H. Techs. From what I have been reading, the Eibach Porkit (1" drop) lasted a while for most of the guys on stockers. The Tein H. Techs are not that stiff of a spring from their rates posted on their site. But, there is like no aftermarket shocks out for my car so I don't have much choice until like August when KYB claims they will have some out.

Didn't notice that tirerack indicates that the KYB's aren't avaible until August.

Now that I don't have to drive the Si in the winter anymore (got a Subaru Outback Sport), I'm trying to decide what to do with the suspension. I'm in a different situation - there are too many choices. Probably do moderate drop with H&R OE, Pro-Kit or Comptech springs. Don't really need adjustable shocks, so don't know which way to go.

Questions: Do you rub the fenders now under hard cornering?

I don't know much about Civics, so is your tire size and offset what's "optimal"?

I'm just wondering, because a correctly fitted tire and wheel combo shouldn't rub anywhere whether it's on stock suspension or slammed to the ground.

Why not get the right offset of the rims and go with S. Tech Springs, that way you get what you want w/o rubbing. In fact, Civic is a pretty widely known car, I'm sure you won't have trouble finding the right rims with right offsets. If you need to find the right offset for your car, let me know and I know someone that can help you with it.

Good luck.

No, I don't rub now. I just talked to a guy with the exact same drop, tire, wheel, and offset and he says he does not rub at all.

But another concern of mine is stock shock life.

Generally speaking stock shocks will not perform properly with lowered springs, you really need matching components.

Another downside of stiffer suspension is the chance to find every rattle in the interior.

Some people can live with the harsher ride others cannot, I would find someone else who has modified their car and drive it.

WHat people fail to mention about our 2001 and up civics is that they are harder to lower now because of the suspension change from double wishbone in front to machpherson. Kinda wish they would have kept the original. Oh well, im still happy with my 02 ex.

Are you on stock suspension hondaguy?

I know what you mean and alot of the oldr gen Civic guys don't get it. I ran into a guy last night with a Jackson super on his 90 something and he was a real nice kid but he was trying to tell me that there was tons of stuff out for my car...I just played dumb instead of arguing. ;) I sort of get sick of everyone saying that anything from the previous d-series will fit the D17. :lol

It's almost universal that it's recommended to change your shocks/struts out to "performance" versions by a good manufacturer. You have to remove them to change the springs anyway, so why not? It's no more additional work unless you buy something like Konis that are inserts only (and even that isn't horrible to do I understand).

You'll always find people who keep the stock struts and say they work "fine", but I think they are probably a minority. The problem is that the stiffer springs are too much for the stock struts to handle because they don't give enough dampening when the springs do move, even though they're stiffer.
