Supposed to wetsand and polish a scratch today, should I?

The last time I was at a customer's house, they wanted me to use some touch up paint they got from the dealer to fill in a 3 foot long, primer-deep scratch on the driver's side of their Suburban. I applied 5 good coats, to a point at which the touch up paint is now level with the rest of the paint. Today I'm supposed to go back and wetsand and polish the touch up. I have very little experience wetsanding, so I'm a little squeamish about doing such a large area. Will the marks come out with a PC, cutting pad, and a heavy polish? I have a rotary, but I haven't had a chance to practice with it yet.



Should I go ahead and give it a shot? I feel I can stop and recognize if I'm doing something wrong, I just was wondering if you guys think I should do it. Also, what kind of sandpaper should I pick up, 1500 and 2000?

Edit- The touch up paint has had 2 weeks to cure.
 
Get both grades of sandpaper.



Allow the sandpaper to soak in some warm water for a little while.



Be gentle and use a sanding block to avoid tramlines.



Think of it as just harsher polishing. If you have the right tools the sanding marks / hazing will come straight back out :)
 
I used 2500 Meg's Unigrit followed by 3000 of the same brand. Came out easily with one pass of ssr2.5 on a sfx cutting pad.
 
if im doing touch ups like that in my experience 1500 is all ive needed, if youre not using a block us even pressure with all fingers with say a foam block, never tried using a pc to remove sanding marks but this seems like a good time to try out the rotary. just dont let it sit in the same spot too long i.e. keep it moving. you should be just fine.
