Supaguard - anyone tried it ?

I recently bought a new car and the dealer has offered to apply Supraguard Paint Protection for around 300 Euros (about the same in $). This he says is guaranteed for 2 yrs. No need to every polish or wax the car during that time. Just have to use the Supraguard shampoo to wash it.

To me this sounds like a type of poylmer or acrylic sealant. Can't see how they can guarantee it for so long though.

Any opinions ?

Your probably right, it is probably a polymer or a sealeant, however I'd be very wary of it lasting more than 6 months to a year (depending on how often you drive and/or where your car sleeps). For three hundred dollars, I would pass it up and do it yourself. The results will be 10x better, to say nothing about how you'll save a ton of money in the long run. Get yourself some Blackfire, Zaino, or the Klasse Twins, you wont be sorry!

I'll probably just stick with Autoglym, as it's readily available here, comparable to Klasse, plus it's important I get something durable as the car is a daily driver.

The problem is that the car has some swirl marks on it (non metallic red), despite being brand new, and not washed by the dealer. Presumably it was washed at an earlier stage.

Anyway; I've decided to use 3m SMR to remove the swirls. There's only a few on the rear of the car and along the quarter panels, so I'll do it by hand. The rest of the car; I'll leave as is, and go straight to Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

My questions are :

1) Is it ok to not bother with polishing - for 6 months or so. According to the car manual they say only polish when the factory shine starts to dull.

2) If I use Autoglym Extra Gloss, will I be able to apply it over the area I've used the SMR on, or should I wash with shampoo first, so that the Extra Gloss will bond properly.

thx

Z18:26.95$

From the original 300, you still have 100.4$ for Beer!

The Extra Gloss will not bond properly to SMR, EG needs Super Resin to really stick.

This way you have just saved 300 :)

I already have the Super Resin and Extra Gloss at home.

So I guess I will use some 3m SMR where the swirls are particularly noticeable (boot and rear spoiler). Wash and dry the area to get rid of the oils. Then follow with Super Resin and Extra Gloss. I hope the weather holds out tommorrow.
