Sunday's Details - v. Disastrous Dakota and FMJ'd Teg

First up, a 2003 Dodge Dakota.

This thing is a work truck as you can see. Scratched, gashed, tarred, dirty, etc. It also had many spots where the owner used some rubbing compound and marred the nuts out of the paint.

Anyways, they didn't want full swirl removal and clay, but since it was that bad, I did a pretty stiff polishing regimen at no extra cost. It needed it.

For the interior I did,

-Oxy Mix on seats and carpets

-Woolite mix for vinyl, rubber, plastic

-AA to protect vinyl, rubber, plastic

-Simple green to clean rubber mats, AA to protect

-Gliptone Glass cleaner on glass and clear plastic

For the exterior:

-Mother's Gold Wash

-Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover on all lower panels

-Rain-X on glass

-Wheel Wash on wheels and in wells with soft brush

-Simple Green on tires with stiff brush for the whole tire and #0000 Steel Wool to make the white letters white again

-#80 with LC Polishing Pad via Rotary @ 1500 rpm

-EX-P by hand

-BnB x 3 on tires and plastic trim

-AA in wells

Teg pics on the way...

Now to the Teg...

It was sad to strip off EX x 3 and Natty's x 3, but I wanted to try Menzerna :) .

Started off with PO-85RD polish (ceramiclear polish) which is a 1.5 out of 5 in cut and 5 out of 5 in gloss. This stuff is VERY impressive. I think I have the softest paint out there (repaint) or close to and I always get buffer burns, which I end up having to break out the finishing pad and a very light polish for. Anyways, this stuff cut up my light marring and polished to an amazingly high gloss shine with no hologramming while using the polishing pad. The shine was very very intense.

Once I was done, I applied FMJ by foam applicator and my right hand. Very thin coats, let sit for a few minutes and it came off with no effort. Very slick surface that left for a mirror like shine. I will have to look at the surface more closely tomorrow as today I finished and hit the road back to CT for college (was home in NY detailing).

Polished and Protected the wheels with the same products as the paint.

Enjoy!

Wow looks good :up It always amazes me how people can cleanup dirt like that. Is it pure elbow grease and strong products?

Teg looks good :)

Superb work as always Sean. When I see that you have pics up I can't wait to open them. I am amazed at the level of work and skill you perform:up

Very impressive :up and :bow .

Question regarding Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover - does it job easier to remove tar ? Reason I am asking - I also have tar problem in my car and I use Turtlewax Bug & Tar Remover ( since its locally available :o ), but thats too much elbow grease and sometimes I have scratch with my nail .... :(

You could try Stoner's tarminator, which should also be availble locally, wherever they sell invisible glass. I've had great luck with it. You are going to need to use some elbow grease with any product, but if you allow Tarminator to sit for the recommended amount of time, you should be able to remove most things pretty easily.

Wow, bet the owner of that Dakota was well pleased!:)

The teg looks sublime:cool:

I use the autoglym tar remover, and it's a piece of cake to use...Wipe on, wipe off...Effortless tar removal.

Thanks for all the kind words! The owner was very pleased to have a clean truck yet again :)

I really like the Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover. I just apply it after I have washed the car (still wet) with a terry applicator, just rub lightly, let sit, then wash with a chenille pad and soap and it really cleans up the surface well.

It may be pricey, but I'd definately buy it again. Makes for really quick work.

Sean, did you change your post or is it lost ? I remember clearly, yesterday you said your gf gave AG Intensive Tar Remover as a valentine gift. That wording is gone ... :(

AG Intensive Tar Remover pricey ? How much your gf paid for it ?

I saw it for $8.95 in autopia-carcare . Of course shipping cost kills me ... :D

Nice Job on the Dakota!:up And as usual your car is looking great. How long do you think you will wait till you have strip off the FMJ to layer for the winter?

i think some posts did get lost, including mines. :(

nice job on the dakota, nice transformation. :) your integra looks awesome! it makes me want to get one too! :D how do you like the FMJ? how does it compare to your previous combo?

My post went away too. :nixweiss

Anyway, great job on both, Sean. Obviously, #80 did a great job on that truck and finished off nicely enough you could go straight to EX-P; another reason to <3 #80! ;)

How would you compare the look of FMJ to your other combos? All your pics look great but what differences/similarities do you notice in person?

Damn...Losts the post here.

Yeah it was a valentine gift from my gf.

I listed it as pricey just because Tarminator is about $4 and you can find it locally. I probably never would have bought this stuff, but I'm glad I got to try it.

series1: I will strip it down around Thanksgiving and go to Zaino or Duragloss for the winter.

As far as FMJ, I have another post floating around here with a full writeup on it. It's in the product discussion forum.

GSRstilez,

You are a Duragloss user? Just curious, this product doesn't get much attention here. I tried the sealant once on my hood as a test and I wasn't to impressed. I will admit I didn't do a good surface prep but..... The bottle I used was blue and I think:nixweiss

General Lee:

I got Duragloss from groebuck (user here and DetailCity). He said it's right on the tracks of Zaino when prepped correctly. I am just looking to try something new :)

Ah Duragloss, I need to get myself to a Napa or Car Quest if for nothing more, than the largest size of the wash :up. GSRstilez, do you use any other Duragloss products? How do you like?
