Sunday Detail vs. a few new Poorboys Products

Steve sent me a new mix of PwS to try on a detail that I had lined up for today. My appointment was cancelled, so I decided to give PwS a work out on my STS.

Process Used:

Wash
ü SS&S / Foam Gun on the paint.
ü PB APC 10:1 on the tires & wells
ü S&R on the rims & exhaust

Polish & Seal
ü PwS

I wanted to have a look at the cutting power, so I decided on using the Metabo vs. using my PC. I figured a little heat would give it a bit more cut. I ran the Metabo between 1000-1200RPM, using a LC white polishing pad. My paint was in pretty good shape. I have some minor marring / light scratches from washing –nothing major. 1 pass took care of 75% of them. I’m pretty sure another pass would have finished them off. .

The new version of PwS has a little more bite than Steve’s original mix (Orange smelling). It should work well as long as you’re not expecting it to work as a SMR. I would prefer just a tad more bite, but it’s improved over the last mix that I tried.

Wax
ü QW+

QW+ is one of my favorite Poorboy products. It’s been sitting idle on the shelf for several months (I’m not a big fan of carnuba’s over the winter). I applied QW+ using a finishing pad @ 700 RPM.

Finishing Touches
ü S&G wipe down on the paint, windows, wheels, and exhaust tips.

Tires/Wells
ü Natural Look

I’m the newest member of the ‘5 gallon’ club. (Don’t even ask what my wife said…)

I also tried Steve’s new MF’s, which worked well. They are very similar to his mega plush, but with a boarder.

Looks Great!! I hope your wife called you a product whore lol.

O btw, I wish that paint had a little more mettalic flake pop, ;)

Greg

Oh yeah, way to test it on a real beater :lol.

Stunning would be an understatement...She always looks beautiful.

Forget the 5-gal (congrats by the way...mine has a nice curb appeal), what did Kris say when you parked on the lawn?!

Did you get any hazing with PwS? How close of a cut is it to FPII?

I agree ...I"m wondering what it would do on something in a litle worse shape. I don't believe a one step should ever be judged on a beater, but on a finish in need of some light polishing. A beater will definitely need a few steps minimum for reclamation.

ps ..did you tell your wife the 5 gallon of NL was on sale;) she could probably relate to that :D

Nice looking Caddilac. Great job on the detail and thanks for the new information on the PwS!

Greg: I agree on the flake comment.

Sean: Are you working on your stand-up act? That was pretty funny. I had a Dodge 4x4 lined up that hasn't been touched since early last fall, but it didn't work out.

I picked up some light hazing in the beginning. I had to dial it down to 700 (lowest setting) for the final pass and go sloooooow. No, it doesn't cut as well as FPII. IMO, you can use FPII as a light SMR, as well as a finishing polish.

I think PwS would work well as your final polishing step, and you'd save the time it takes to seal.

Steve: Look out for that episode on Dr. Phil. I'm pretty sure my wife is submitting the application.

Nice post!!

Dialing down with the metabo seemed to help with the hazing, eh? Must have some power in that rotary. Using a PC on 5 would most likely get the PwS to work quite nicely I would guess. Hopefully soon to find out. Have an order from Poorboy's coming soon.

Wish I would have known about the new towels. I put in a major order for the large plush towels a few months ago. I love the bound edge of the new generation towels. I like the color as well. Thanks for the pictures!!

I am going to try PwS new version with PwS old version on a red van that a friend of mine has up here in Fairbanks.

Thanks! Please let us know your impressions on the new mix vs. the old mix. I wish Steve would have kept the orange color/smell :). I'm not too sure what the new mix smells like (I have a cold), but it looks similar to SSR2.5.

I also wanted to mention that I had little or no dusting and PwS was a breeze to wipe off the surface.
