We are now violating our unwritten "no personalization" rule. (Koyaanisqatsi -- my comment is not directed to you, I think your post, above, is humor).
Personalization is how flame wars start.
Personalization has to do with directing comments toward the individual (the "person"), his character, morals, values, etc. rather than about an objective topic. Example:
Joe: I think two coats of Klasse SG are enough
Frank: I have found that a third coat makes a difference.
Joe (not personalizing): Interesting observation. I did not see the same result.
Joe (if he personalized): Frank, you obviously are self-deluded and are seeing what you want to see. Do you have an ownership interest in Klasse?
Joe's first response is respectful, without requiring, however, for Joe to be submissive or abandon his own experience. Joe's second response is <em class='bbc'>guaranteed[/i] to start a flame war. Frank will now feel compelled to respond. And, he will probably respond with personal remarks of his own. And, they will probably not be complementary. So a dwindling spiral downward starts, from one remark. The result -- what lies at the bottom of that downward spiral -- is a forum that is just flames.
Sometimes, to avoid personalizing requires that we hold back emotions we are feeling. Hey, if we acted on every emotion we have, we would be in jail! For the good of the forum, sometimes we just have to keep our personal remarks about another member to ourselves.
We have a great forum because we have great people. Respect for one another, not personal remarks, will keep it that way.
Thanks for listening.
Now, please let me get back to talking about the results of my "let the new coat dry for two days" detailing fanatic experiment
