Suggestions for Alternate Compounds/Polishes for Megs M105/M205

Q: Would I see any benefit from switching from HD Polish to 502?

HD Polish will be my go to polish for the foreseeable future.

I don't compound very often, so I have a hard time buying a different compound when I've got 2/3 of a bottle of 105 on my shelf. That being said, I really don't enjoy using it.

That could've been my post! Same situation and opinions here though I'm a bit more positive Re M105. That said...

Now that I've tried M101 (mixed with a little HD Cut) I'm wondering what I'll do with my M105.

I think Scottwax suggested that M105 makes an excellent chrome cleaner. I've done that on some rusty truck running boards/step tubes to avoid using my (very) limited supply of vintage Simonize chrome cleaner. It works OK, but I did follow it up with Optimum Metal Polish (another Scottwax recommendation/suggestion).

Combos I have used and circulated around in the past year with variety of pads. (MF, Wool, fine polishing pads):

Sonax Cutmax
Sonax EX 04-06

or

Shine Supply Classic Cut
Shine Supply Classic Polish.

New combo that I have been using recently on multi-stage corrections.
Shine Supply Flat Top
Shine Supply Slick Back

I really like Cutmax and EX 04-06. They feel like they can be worked for forever.

Just bought some Flat Top. It sounds like a great product and can't wait to try it out.

I'd consider trying the 3D AAT if it was available in smaller sample sizes. Ray, maybe ACC can get a special run at 12 oz for a package deal.. 2 12oz samples for a set group buy price.

I just used Carpro Essence...if it was a woman I'd be in love!!!

I used to say...
If I only had two polishes they would be Megs M101 and Carpro Reflect.

I'm still a big fan of Megs M101 for compounding but for finishing...
to remove light swirls, micro-marring and add tons of clarity and gloss,

Carpro Essence is a winner!

Merlin, do you use foam pads using 101? Seems like if you use wool or microfiber it will dust pretty bad. Guess thats why they call it foam cut compound:) But maybe you use something other than foam and figured out how to stop the dusting?

You guys talked me into it. I just swiped my credit card and will be playing with these on Sunday. I've got a 2014 black Honda Civic Si scheduled for a correction detail which should be the perfect test for these polishes.

I look forward to your report compared to Menzerna. I want to buy a new finishing and medium polish so just waiting since no polishing planned for a while.

Be sure to try on some harder clears too, Especially the fast with MF pad! The one Honda I did required more effort on wipe off than normal, though it was pretty neglected too.

Definitely interested in hearing how you like them. :)

I prefer to use Megs M101 with Meg DMC5 Microfiber cutting discs.
Depending on the paint, if I get dusting, I add a drop or two of D300 to the pad.
This stops the dusting without inhibiting the cut and finish ability of M101.

Actually, M101 was specifically developed for the European body shop market.
Unlike the states (rotary wool) they do a quick foam pad compound on "problem" areas.
It was such a hit that body shops in Europe were shipping M101 to the states.
TMK this is the only compound that was ever sold to the states on the "black market". (grin)
In Europe you can purchase M101 by the gallon. In the states they only sell M101 by the quart.

I like 3d adapt/car pro reflect combo
Just added scholls s3 gold xxl to the lineup

I still cant get an answer to whate different about 3d adapt vs aat finishing polish
Besides price hike

From Vega's post #22 "It's better in every way. It has more cut (almost as much as Adapt), even longer working time, finishes great, no dusting and is super easy to wipe off." He also did a full review of the AAT polishes, but I can't find it just now.

Vega:
Since you are one of the posters who suggested HD's 501/502 AAT compound/polish combo, I (and every Autopian who is following this thread) would like to know your thoughts and opinions on how the GG's BOSS compounds/polishes experiences compare to HD's. I know Rasky LOVES the BOSS from his various posts.

I'll be posting a review later this week, but these BOSS polishes are AWESOME. I used all of them on a black Civic this weekend and really enjoyed them. I was really surprised by the correction ability of the Fast Correction Cream with a microfiber cutting pad. It removed some DEEP scratches that I normally have to use a rotary polisher to remove. They all smell great and are super easy to work with. The one downside I will say is they seem to be thicker "creams", so I found them to clog my pads quicker than some other polishes. But that's a tradeoff I'm willing to make for the performance of these polishes at this price. Overall, they're amazing. Full review coming soon...

p.s. I love the fact that the Finishing Sealant has micro abrasives to squeeze out that last bit of gloss. Or it can be used as a "one step" All In One product for vehicles in great condition.

I've heard a couple great reviews for the BOSS polishes lately. I never would've considered polishes from the machine companies, instead opting to buy polishes from people that specialize in that type of product. Looks like I'll have to give them a shot in the future when I'm through all the stuff I have. Here's to hoping I pick up a few paid details next year!
