Suds guns

Hey Greg,

Yeah Same Yupkwondo....Was looking around for somewhere to do a really good detail job before I put the M5 away for winter...or atleast on restricted duty (restricted to: Clean Roads and Sunny Winter Days) :-)

One of the most respected members here, Andre, is from the Cinci area. Perhaps he can give you some more info. At any rate, I'm sure you could do a very good job yourself just by following many of the tips/procedures that are often discussed here. Laters.

I did some searching and it seems the people that have a soap gun like it. Which version is better, the hose version or the pressure washer lance version? I figure if I am going to buy one, do it right the first time.

I bought the Gilmore Foam Gun to attach to the hose. The neighbors were fascinated by it, however I hated it the few times I used it. Soap seemed to dry too fast and I just found it to be a pain to use chasing suds around before it dried.
The kids love it though, for playing around and soaping themselves up, and frankly that is what I think it really is, a toy for the kids. Just me and my experience.

I use the hose type (gilmore foam gun) and it works great. As far as it drying too fast I haven't had that problem. I use the Eimann Fabrik Gentle Shampoo in it, spray it on, let it dwel for a bit then hose it off. :Dancing Dot:

Is this replacing washing by hand or in addition to it?
I've seen a lot of people use Dawn dish soap to wash their car, is this safe?
I thought you weren't to use dish soap on cars because it would remove the wax.
Has this changed?? or is Dawn different ??

This is a pre wash aid. It loosens and lifts a lot of the dirt on the paint. After letting it sit for while, hose it off and start your wash. Dawn will remove wax and sealants. You want to use a low ph car wash soap that won't strip the wax off.

i have them both and though i much prefer the foam lance for sudsing ability. i'll use the gilmore when i don't feel like dragging out the pressure washer or its sunday morning and i dont wanna wake up the neighbors... the foam cannon is the sh*&$%$%%&t!!!!

Camaro...As I understand it, Dawn is used by alot of detailers on cars that they have never detailed before. It will strip off all wax's, stuff that has been put on the car so they can start from a clean slate.

I tried foaming but found:

  • The foam guns are expensive
  • It uses a lot of soap
  • It left streaking that would not easily rinse off
  • I did not see any significant benefit verses regular washing
However, it does look very cool. Your neighbors will think you are a tad touched in the head. :D
