Substitute for Rain X

Ive used everything from NXT to DP's spray sealant, AIO, and Zaino on my glass. All work well, but i prefer the DP spray sealant ,as a dedicated sealant will have some streaking until it sets up.

No wiper chatter either with any of them.

Actually one of my work trucks was chattering, and it stopped with the DP on the glass.

Vanilla moose works great for me. I finally found a use for it.

Is there anything on the market that comes in bulk that works like Rain X? I am getting tired of buying the bottles but want something easy to apply with the same effects.

Actually, Eagle 20/20 glass cleaner has a very similar effect to Rain X. You can clean and give the windows the ability to bead water in one step. Seems to last longer for me than Rain X does too.

:nervous: I can't believe I am about to disagree with Scottwax. He got me interested in this stuff in the first place from a totally different site altogether (Offtopic.com).

I have an older car (1997 Mazda626) and the windshield is the original with over 70k worth of wear on it. It is fairly pitted but no major chips so far. EO 20/20 doesnt seem to work at all on my windshield. It cleans it VERY well, but as far as repelling water compared to Rain-x its NO CONTEST. if it has been raining and i hop into the car, my wight shifting the car will cause all the standing water on the glass to run off immidiately. It Does bead up with EO, but doesnt run off. This may be different with new glass, but for me nothing beats Rain-X. I do have to re-apply as i find road grime tends to show streaks in teh coating after a few good road trips and some heavy bug coverage. Gotta love those 100mph runs through the countryside at night with all those bugs! :woohoo:

Does Stoners remove Rain-X? If not what does?

I like VM on glass. It only lasts for maybe a month, but application and removal are so easy...applying every few weeks is no big deal for me.

Aquapel is a great product and can be bought at AutoInt or also Top of the Line.

To clean it, after application, I only use water and a MF.

I have to strongly second that. I've been offering it to my customers now for about a year and it's the single most requested add-on. Also, every customer that's tried it always requests it again.

Just make sure you start with *very* clean glass. Z glass polish is what has worked best for me as far as prepping the glass. 1 vial of Aquapel is enough to do front x2 and rear with maybe some leftover for drivers/passengers windows if the car is small.

Like Anthony said, use only water (or glass cleaner but I know Anthony has a thing about buying glass cleaner :chuckle: ) and MF to clean. No QD as it will haze and smear.

Application on my daily driver lasted 6 months before I decided to re-apply. Performance drops off a bit (but still works well) after about 3-4 months. Also, it's not very slick to the touch but hey, it's glass... you shouldn't be touching it!

Forgot to mention that occasionally, you can find good deals for Aquapel on ebay. I bought 50 vials a while back for about $2/vial.

I have used Mothers Chrome polish with excellent results. Another one (flame me) that worked quite well in a dirty windshield was Nu-Finish. cleaned it and beaded for a few weeks :p

I've just gone through another rainy day driving surface streets. I treated my windshield with Rain Clear(what a pain) and Klasse SG, right half was Rain Clear. I was going 40 and the rain was that light, irritating rain but it wasn't beading fast enough, I couldn't see, the cones for the contra flow lane were messed up and long story short, I smacked into a sign post I didn't see until too late. Scratched my side mirror paint. I'm going back to Rain-X. There is simply no comparison. The Rain Clear and Rain-X look the same when the car is sitting still but the Rain-X beads the water off a moving car at a much lower speed(30-35 MPH). I usually apply it twice with the following method:

1)Wipe glass with paper towel and Rain-X

2)Stream on Rain-X from bottle directly on glass and wipe until hazy with paper towel

3)Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes or overnight if I have time

4)Wipe with microfiber towel

5)Repeat steps 2-4

Thank god for MF, I used to try taking it off with just paper towels, what a nightmare.

I've also tried that No-Touch stuff and can attest their products are a waste of money.

So the rain was light...

Did you try using your wipers? :nixweiss

I've been using Vanilla Moose on my windshield for months, and I've never looked back. I also treat my wipers with 303 Wiper Treatment every few weeks. Rain never stands a chance on my windshield.

Consider the Rain-X windshield washer fluid. The effects aren't as strong as a dedicated treatment, but it works pretty well. And there's really no easier way to apply it.

Is it just me, or what?

When i apply rain-x, i bufff it out it after it hazes... but the haze always comes back! I always have to clean the windshield again with invisible glass afterward

Try applying it before you wash the car. The car washing should remove the excess and prevent re-hazing. Another method is to use the gas station squeegee and clean the windows that way (after applying the Rain-X).

You can also clean the wiper blades with VM.

===============

I've been using NXT Glass Cleaner for the last couple of months and it repels water very well...and cleans better than anything else I've used.

I've had good results using my Zaino polish on windows and side mirrors. Seems to last about 4-6 months w/o discoloration or fogging. Never had wipers skip or chatter. Only potential problem is you must have really clean windows or you will be sealing in some undesired things.

Discovered using Z Polish on windows here a year or two ago.
