Subaru guys....how are the 2.5 RS Imprezas?

I starting doing some math and I don't think I want to spend the money on an Acura TL or TSX right now so I am thinking of maybe a Subaru 2.5 RS. I REALLY want the WRX but I am wondering how good the RS is since it is closer to what I want to spend.

Thanks

The old 2 doors were sorta quick.

The new sedans are very slow. I think a Mazda3 would be a better choice.

I drive a Civic right now so speed is not my top priority. ;) I just like the looks of them and the AWD feature.

98-2001 rs was o-60 in around 8 seconds, 1/4 miles best stock I have heard of was around 15.8. So not so fast.

Bang for the buck I would go with an older dodge or mitsu turbo car. Lots of car for the money with those two companies. 3000gt, dodge stealth, eagle talon etc.

I guess. I have a certain attatchment to the Mazda 3. :o After driving one and having the salesperson tell us to go faster, i don't know, I just really liked the car!

I drive an Accord automatic and I still thought the 2.5RS was slow. The 5 speed 2.5 was a bit better.

When I got back into my friend's '04 cavalier 5 speed, it felt quicker. :nixweiss A lot quicker actually.

Well I have a Baja 2.5 and really like it but If your going Best bang for the buck awd and all that the turbo models go really fast and kick *** but your paying a high price and using 92-93 oct. so really it didn't make much sence to me to buy the turbo but i wish i did. anyway I think you would be happy with the rs and if you could aford to go up to the wrx then i would but all in all i think either would be a good choice.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone. I am not really looking for a speed demon. Just something nice to toy around town in. The AWD really appeals to me especially in winter time.

I prefer them to the WRXs as an all around family car. What i like is that my wife won't drive a stick, and turbo lag in the WRX auto is pretty bad. She doesn't need all that power, so the RS is just right; Subaru reliability and AWD.

I don't HAVE one, but that's what I like about them. If you want an Impreza automatic, it's the way to go. Oh; we sell Subarus.

the 2.5 is nice... i wouldnt mind having one. nice as a daily driver, and the all wheel drive helps.. if you ever want, just throw on the sti turbo, and you'll have a 5speed impreza rs sti...

Just to get this clear in the beginning, I drive a wrx, and have not driven a 2.5 rs, but I'd just like to say I love the car. I've been more than happy with my subaru, for the whole...5000 miles I've had it:) A friend of my brothers has a 2.5rs and he said he really enjoys it. But like someone else said, check out nasioc.com I haven't really had a problem with the people on the boards, and just check out what they have to see, I just hope ya go with a subaru, I'm sure you'd be more than happy

I've never seen that happen and why would you go to a WRX club to get info about an RS

you must have a very specific experience on Nabisco. I see burnings in every forum of that place.

And clubwrx.net has other subaru fans as well.

but more to the point, yes, people like the 2.5, but you'll be hard pressed to find one until at least spring because AWD cars are snatched up for the winter.:bounce

Try bbs.scoobynet.co.uk

its one of the most friendly and knowledgable sites.

They are also one of the busiest.

Well, we test drove a 04 RS, 05 RS and a 04 Forester.

The 05 interior was WAY better than the 04. STi seats, minus the STi and bright color, 6 disc in dash cd player, better materila, and a few other things that I liked better. The 04 Forester was very nice as well and was marked down to $18,000 with only 9,000 miles on it. However, I was not ready to step into a suv right now. So, if the dealer can find an 05 like I want on another local lot we can have it in a week or so. If not we order one and we get it in 4-5 weeks. I sort of hope we order one just so I have a month to try and sell my car and not get raped by the dealer trade in value.

2001civicex- Based on my experiences with our Outback and WRX, you might oughta make sure your dealer's service dept. can fix it *before* you buy one. Our local Subie dealers were, uhm, less than competent ;) to put it nicely, resulting in a lot of hassles before we finally gave up on the marque. Don't mean to be a downer, but between the dealers and the cars themselves our Subaru experiences were such that we'll probably never own another one.

No need for flames from Subie-fans, I know plenty of people who *love* theirs and never have any trouble at all, and I've seen first hand what a well-driven STi is like on the track. But I want 2001civicex to go into this with all the info he can get.

Oh, and check the paint for acid rain damage. I've seen a few that were beyond (safely) fixing right off the lot.
