Stuf Shine - 1st Impressions

I ordered a kit of the Stuf products (wash, polish, wax) and got a chance to try the wax out on my Mach 1 (which is more show and cruise than daily driver).

1. The base I put the product on was NXT with a Souveran topper (about 2 weeks old).

2. Applied Stuf with a pc and 9006 finish pad. Stuf will definitely soak in the pad so I used the "make an X" method of applying. It does not spread as much as Souveran over a given area.

3. Let haze and buff with mf towel followed by a final buff with mf bonnet on the pc. There is a fair amount of drag when buffing with the mf towel and the overall finish is excellent (see pic).

Overall impression of Stuf is good but I can't measure durability on this car.

I'm going to try all three products on my daily driver "test mule".

Looks pretty good, but I'm sure that most things you put on your paint look good. Their website was interesting though. Keep us updated fellow KC'er.

Dale: the wax is the only thing I've tried so far. It really needs to be applied to my daily driver that sits out, gets driven rain or shine and gets washed frequently.

The Mach sits in a garage with a dust cover and is used for cruises and shows...just about anything I use will look good and last between shows. But I wanted to evaluate it against Souveran and it meets/exceeds Souveran in that regard.

The folks at Stuf Products are very quick to respond to questions and the shipments are quick.

It seems you use two of the most talked about waxes on your car already (NXT and Souvern)... How about a compare/contrast versus what you already had? Ease of use? Color? Slickness?

Thanks!

blackntan: one thing I did notice after using Stuf Shine was the lack of slickness. This seems to be true to a lesser extent with Souveran, but this product was very different from the NXT wax. A benchmark I use for slickness is Collinite Insulator wax. You can toss your mf towel across a trunk lid that has Insulator wax and it will drop off the other side. Not so with Stuf.

Ease of use was equivalent to liquid Souveran or NXT. Apply by hand or pc, let haze and buff.

I definitely like the color of the car with Stuf..very liquid looking for a metallic gray. I'm eager to try it out when the rain quits on the metallic black Grand Vitara. That vehicle shows a much better picture of what the Stuf will do.

Thanks for the comments. This place is wonderful in learning what's out there for the detailing enthusiast.

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but doesn't Collinite Insulator Wax #845 contain silicone as well as carnuaba? Wouldn't the silicone content be the major part of the reason why the towel slides right off your car?:nixweiss

Sci-Fi: I don't know what the contents of 845 are (although it does have a strong smell). My primary use of 845 is the inside of my Halibrand rims because they are fully polished and I need some form of protection (gonna try Zoop Seal this coming winter).

I suspect you're right about the silicone content of 845 'cause it is very slick.

NozeBleedSpeed: I just tried it out on my 03 Mach 1 last week. But it's been raining here all week and the Mach is in the garage under a cover. That would definitely be an unfair reliability test IMO (LOL).

If (big if in Kansas this next week) it quits raining, I'm going to try it on my daily driver.
