Street Dreams: My most extensive correction yet, Black Porsche 911

I was looking for a product wqith high shine and that wet shiny look to it. I purchased a bottle of Ef Black Opal, since Ef Clear Pearl and Ef Hi-Intesity did so well.

I did not like the product. Sure it provided a great shine when first applied but after a one hour drive and light drizzle the shine was gone and sling was all over the side of the car. I sprayed the BO on the tire the night before so it had at least 10 hours to sit on the tire. It also used a lot of product. I am sure I could of prevented sling and waste dressing if I used a Eagle One tire swipe or towel to apply and buff. But I was really looking for a glossy shine.

For now I'll stick to my trusted Vinylex.

Thanks for reading my venting, feels good to visit Autopia after a week.

I’m back to using 303 after having used Black Opal for a few months. I think I’ll still use it for when I’m in the mood for that super high gloss look but I’ll use 303 the rest of the time. I never experienced sling but I do notice the tires require more time and effort to clean after BO. I think it stays tacky and attracts a little dirt as well. One thing you might try is not being so liberal and manually wipe/spread with a foam applicator after spraying. You’ll use less product and I like the finish better.

Speaking of Black Opal…where’s Beau been?

Adam

P.S. Welcome back :)

Jason, I feel your pain. I love the look BO gives my tires, but its such a pain in the rear to apply, and if it rains forget about it.

Applying it with an applicator works, but the shine isnt as intense as it would be if you sprayed your tires. But spraying causes a mess and you waste product in the process. So you can't win either way.

I wish they would make a BO tire gel. It would be easier to apply and hopefully last longer.

Steve- yes a tire gel in the sights of BO should be made. I would be in line to give it a whirl. I think Finish 2001 (turtle wax) offers a high shine with no sling in gel form, I gotta pick up a bottle and test it out.

Andre- and at around $20 for 3L of Vinylex it is hard to beat. Still got around 2L left, been using it very frequently too.

Which reminds me hook where are you? send me an e-mail since I'll be back home next weekend, and send out the sample on monday, the 27th.

Hey Jason, good to have you back. Yeah, I really don't think I'd be a big fan of the Black Opal. Just a bit too oily looking for my taste. As for Beau, he often disappears for a week to two weeks at a time. Don't worry, our good buddy will be back. He always manages to find his way home. Laters.

Try turtle wax 2001 tire gel in teh green bottle. It's a high shine product, goes on easy, with no mess and has decent durability.

this hard drive will not fail me like the other one. Its losing already (maybe corrupt thing pops up), oh well just gotta wait till Saturday until I finally get to go home.

I really love that deep, oily, shiny, glossy, wet look on light colored cars, I think it makes it stand out more besides the really shiny deep looking paint (if you call it deep.)

Looks like I gotta go out and get me a bottle of that Turtle Wax stuff at K-mart or something. Well Maybe next spring, since the detailing season in NY/NJ will be over soon and school is starting (gotta get me a girl, good for my health as my "not" single friends say.)

But you Autopians are my *best* friends!

Jason

Hi, my name is Steve (*hi steve*) and it's been 1 month since I've not used anything on my tires. They are still slightly brown from my last application of Maguires purple crap (you can tell cause the brown has splotches from over application. I am going to order 303 soon so that I can have black tires again.

You are correct, winter will fall upon us before we know it, but this place will be how we get our fix for not being able to detail.

I was surprised when I got the BO after hearing about it I thought it would be more of a product.

It was a little too greasy, oily and it slung off

onto the paint. I'ts waaaaay too much money, about

3 times what other protectants cost. EO Concourse is what I use now, water-based seems to be the way

to go for me. Gives me a nice, dark, blk texture, non-oily and non-shiny. CMA was nice enough to let

me keep the BO, but I don't know what I am going to do with it, maybe use it for the wheel-wells.

Yes, issues with Black Opal, not Body Odor.

ZV - Yes it was expensive 32 oz. for $14 or $15. Oh well, one aspect of detailing is buying and experimenting. Thought it would perform better but, still got the trusty Vinylex.

I just bought a bottle of TW 2001 Tire gel, based on a few positive comments from regulars here (DetailKing and BradB, I think, have both said they like it).

After 4 days, it's still looking good. I've noticed no slinging, and I used one application, buffed after about 10 minutes, for a satin look.

I can't find EO concours, or EO satin. Are they the same product? All the places here only have the Eo Wet, which stays on well but I think is contributing to the black dust on my side panels.

blue skies,

Andy

You're the man.

Meijer's had a whole case of TW 2001 tire gel, marked down $1.00 to $3.99 (I think?) so I bought some. So far, so good, but next time maybe I'll try the EO Concours.

See seperate thread about the wax you gave me for the Lexus...

Blue Skies,

Andy

I posted a couple weeks ago about my bad experience with using YoSteve's favorite dash product on my tires - Black Magic Dashboard stuff. Well I was right about the uneven sheen, even after buffing with a wet cotton and dry cotton cloth. Well, now almost a couple weeks later I must say that the tires actually look NICE. It's an even sheen, and the water beads on the tires. Granted, I didnt like driving around for a few days with the unevenness, but it eventually all blended in. So who knows, maybe it's ok.

RH, are your tires black? My tires have nothing on them but have a brown tint to them (which I don't like). I ordered some 303 to help stop the browning. Report on how they look after the BM wears off. Thanks, YoSteve.

Steve, how did you get "Is where it's at "under your user name? Beau and I would love to get "Original Gangsta Detailers" under our user name. Hehe!
