Okay, I am in need of a tire dressing that meets the following criteria: I must be able to purchase it locally (AutoZone, Wal-Mart), it must not sling onto/stain plastic moldings, a moderate shine is preferred, and it must not turn tires brown.



Any suggestions, please?



I already have Z-16 and 303 for the Corvette, but this is for a daily driver and my needs are a little different for this vehicle.

Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel, (regular, not hi-gloss) seems to be the best. Or, if you can find it, the Turtle Wax Tire Wax seems decent. I just prefer METG for ease of use and the way it seems to last. It doesnt sling as long as you remember to wipe the excess off after applying (I usually will apply quite thick, let it 'soak in' for 15 minutes while I QD the rest of the car, then wipe off the excess with one of my wheel/tire cleaning cloths)



I reapply every 2 weeks to keep the gloss just where I want it.
 
Do you have any personal experience with the TW Tire Wax? I actually have that local to me, but was wondering about it's performance.



The Meguiar's product that you mention smells like grapes, right?
 
I would also recommend Meguiars High Endurance (regular, not Hi-gloss) for your daily driver. It smells like grapes and has a light purple, lavender color to it. Its like a thick cream. The Hi-gloss one is a dark purple and translucent.



I apply the Meguiars Endurance like SLPcarluver. I let it sit for an hour though. Then I come back and buff to a shine and remove excess.



The Turtle Wax tire wax I've seen before at my local K-mart. I'll go check it out later.

I actually have both of the Eagle One products that you speak of. I use the protectant on the wheelwells of the Vette, but have not tried it elsewhere. I had purchased the Satin Finish Concours dressing a while ago for the Vette as well, but found that I did not care for the finish that it left on the tires.



And I guess I'm fortunate in that I have a Marine Supply store near me that carries 303, which is very handy.





And I have to ask...why do you guys let the Meguiar's Tire Gel sit for so long on the tire, especially an hour? Any benefit to that Jason? :confused:

I let it sit for an hour so the tire can absorb as much as possible before I buff off the excess. I apply it with a foam pad making sure to work it into the tire.



I guess I can compare it to body lotion. If you apply it and wipe it off, you don't get the maximum results from it. you would have to rub the lotion into the skin for the maximum results, sometimes maybe you'll have to apply more.



Or marinating a steak. The night before I would put the steak into a pan and pour a special marinating formula over it. Wrap up the pan with saran wrap, put it into the fridge and grill it the next night.

an hour is in my opinion excessive....... my 15 minutes is simply to allow the porous surface of the rubber soak up the dressing, which will help it to last longer (so you dont have to reapply quite so often)...... also it seems to make the gloss a little bit more uniform/perfect so you dont get the streaking associated with some other dressings (and even this dressing if used the wrong way)

Meguiars Endurance and Turtle wax tire wax, and I found that ME has a more even "sheen" on the tire. The advantage of the tire wax is I have found that none of the product slings off onto the fender after buffing. The tire wax does not cover the tire as well as ME and I usually apply (2) coats for complete coverage. If you have a black car sellecting a tire dressing that does not sling off the tire is so important. I have tried numerous products, and I cannot stand seeing the dressing overspraying onto the fenders(especially on a black car):(
 
What's the deal with all this "slinging"?!?! Do you guys buff your tires and still have sling? I dont see how, but I also dont see why people wouldnt buff off the excess? Enlighten me.
 
I'm currently evaluating 303.



I've beem using the Meguiars High Endurance since last summer. It is great stuff. I'm able to control the gloss better buy applying with a foam applicator and dabbing rather than wiping. I let it sit about 15 min then wipe off the excess using a MF towel. The gloss, not shine as I don't like the wet look, lasts about 8-11 days depending on how much it rains.



I've used the 303 three times so far using an Eagle one tire swipe, sitting 15 min an wiping any excess off with a MF towel. doesn't seem to be any better or worse that the Mequiars, but we haven't had much rain here lately. :nixweiss

RH - What were the reasons that you gave your bottle away? I am interested to know why you did not like it.



I went out to 2 local stores this evening and was not able to find the Meguiar's product, but did find the Turtle Wax Tire Wax, so I bought that in order to give it a try.



There is an AutoZone about 35 minutes from me that I know for sure carries the Meguiar's product, so when I'm in that area I will stop in and pick it up.

I must preface my dislike by saying that I was previously using Vinylex and 303 before trying out the Endurance. I found the Endurance required more product, did not apply as easily, and did not last as long. Initial results are decent. I find that I can usually go every other wash when using 303 and the tires still look decent. I didnt find that to be the case with Endurance, in fact they started to brown before the week was over. It's an ok product, but like I said, I was used to the other products and like those much better, especially since I get no browning with 303. Michelin XGT/V4's.
 
I have found that a very small amount of all of the liquid type dressings eventually wind up on the corners of the fenderwell and and the immediate area near the fenderwells unless they are buffed completely dry. On my black car I will find that Endurance will fade around the tire due to the centrifical force of movement , and a small amount of the product will end up on the area near the fenderwell. I notice this because every little imperfection will stick out like a sore thumb on a freshly waxed black car. Even if it the most minute amount of overspray, I still find it annoying.



P.S. So you car just picture my look of disgust when I see a black car that just came from a car wash with that heavy bacon grease dressing slathered all over the side of the car !:scared
 
At least in Charlotte, here is what stores supply what products (this is by memory, so I might be leaving out a couple):



Wal-Mart: No really good tire stuff

Target: Turtle Wax Tire Wax-- pretty cheap

Pep Boys: Turtle Wax Tire Wax, Meguiar's Endurance, Endurance Hi-Gloss

K-Mart: Meguiar's Endurance Hi-Gloss (and maybe plain Endurance), Eagle One Protectant (the one that is replacing the Satin Finish)

Personally, I love the Eagle One WET Tire Gel. Also, the tire swipes are genius-even coverage every time.

My neighbor had a really bad browning problem w/ the Meguiar's Endurance, so I steer clear of that.



The Eagle One gives me an even, perfect 'wet' look everytime, and it beads water for about a month!!

You can get more shine than 303 without foregoing UV protection by using Vinylex. I've seen it at several auto parts stores.
