Stearing wheels

What do you guys use on your stearing wheels to clean and darken them up(dress them) without making them slippery?

Depends. Is this a leather wrapped steering wheel? Just use whatever you would use to clean your dash. To not make them slippery you just need to not use a slippery protectant. Either that or wipe it down with a dry towel after applying it.

On my new one, it's leather wrapped. I apply some Adam's Leather Conditioner and let it sit for a while. Then I go back and wipe it slightly with a MF to remove any excess. Same thing with the shifter knob.

Meguiar's #39 to clean and then probably Armor All to protect. Doesn't really help with the greasy factor, but you can still wipe that off.

You still haven't told us what kind of wheel it is. Leather? Is it dirty or are you just looking for something to protect it with.

I use Blue Magic Vynil and Leather cleaner on most steering wheels depending on the material. It's cheap and works just fine. I only use it on the steering wheel. One thing to look for in a product that you will be using on a steering wheel or other surface where grip is important is that is a cleaner, not a protectant. In my experience, products described as protectants (I know there are probably exceptions) will usually leave a slippery feel.

If it's vinyl then VRT can be safely used. I have had no slipperiness issues with it. It's worth a try, and if it doesn't work you can always wash it off (VRT is water-based).

i usually only wipe it down with a towel that is sprayed very lightly with my meguiars interior shine. i dont like my steering wheel slippery at all. im often in situations where i need a lot of grip on the wheel. i plan on getting some of Poorboy's Natural Look as soon as i run out of my current supply.

As much as I can't stand slipperiness, I absolutely cannot stand stickiness!

yes, stickiness is worse than slipperiness. i like to shoot for the middle of the two.

vinyl wheel and it's a pretty new car (4 months old) but I want to protect it from becoming crappy....thanks for all the advice

Hey BlackSunshine,

Definitely go with a water-based dressing that dries almost immediately and has a ton of SPF UV protection. I know you are a bit limited to accessiblility of products in Canada, but maybe try a RV Dealership?

RV dealership...never thought of that....thanks Nick, I'll check that out as well as marine supply stores....can't hurt.
