Static-Cling Paint Protection Film

Okay, stupid me forgot that I used a different email addy for Window-Cling. I just checked it now and they didn't give me a quote simply because I asked for 60"x60". The widest they can accomodate is 48". I replied back for a quote request on 48"x144" and 48"x216", but I think 144" should be plenty enough to cover most of the front of the vehicle. :)

Hmmm.. I dunno about using it for the front or other areas subject to extreme wind/buffeting  You sure wouldn't want it to come unstuck.

In my case, I was thinking about the rear hatch of the Yukon, where there's no unpainted area to grab when closing it (on the MPV I touch the license plate; on the Blazer there's a black plastic handle surround). How am I supposed to close it when it's dirty without marring the paint :nixweiss Same problem on the Audis, but my wife and I flip them shut by grabbing the handle on the underside the trunk lid (gotta be very careful lest you slam it on your hand  ).

1) I sell a static cling product to use on the face shields of MC visors as a sun shield. Stays stuck well unless any air gets under it. Then it's history. Unless you're going on a completely flat surface where all edges can be easily stuck, static cling won't work.

2) On my mom's 300, there is no place to grab the trunk lid to pull it shut, so I installed a trunk strap from another Chrysler (can't remember which one). Just screwed it into the trim inside the truck so the bottom of the loop is even with the bottom of the trunk lid & it's easy to get enough force to close the trunk and get your hand out of the way fast enough. On my wife's Acura, the interior hatch back handle is so far inside you have to be really quick removing your arm (or it will remove it for you).

kompressornsc- Yeah, we used similar films on our helmet visors when tracking open-wheeled cars and our experiences mirrored yours. I didn't know if the different films, used on a vehicle, would behave the same or not.

Good thinking on your Chrysler :xyxthumbs Our vehicles (including the Yukon) all have something like the strap (and if they didn't you bet I'd add one!), but it doesn't always work quite well enough. The Yukon in particular just needs that added push :(

Heh heh, your wife's Acura sounds like the Audis...yeah, gotta be careful! Sorta scary huh? I give our wives a lot of credit for going through such stuff over preventing a little marring on the trunk lids :D The Audi mechanics were a bit leery of the whole idea when I insisted that they close the trunklids that way...

Accumulator, I thought about that problem also. However, I'm thinking that as long as the vinyl film is completely sealed I shouldn't have a problem. The only problem I'm seeing right now is if the film loses its static properties, which would then lead to peeling. Anyway, I got a reply back from Window-Cling. A 48"x144" clear blank is only $69.12 plus shipping. Or a 48"x216" is $103.68. That is much cheaper and larger than what the guys at Tankslapper is offering. I emailed back expressing my interest in ordering 48"x144". One thing I also wanted to point out is that I'm also planning on doubling up on this. So, instead of just a 7.5mil film, I'll have 15mil. I just got a very nasty stone chip off the highway today, and I'm more than willing to try out this solution. :)

FitSport- I bet that stonechip has you more motivated than ever! Keep us updated on how this works out.

Payment sent through PayPal. $94.12USD shipped to Canada. I got raped on the shipping there. I'm being told it will be about 3 weeks before it arrives at my door. I'll keep up with the updates as they come. :)

Accumulator, stay tuned in the Product discussion section. I received the product on Friday, and we'll be showing photos of it later today. :)

FitSport- OK, cool. For future reference, I just click on the "New Posts" link every time I log on, so unless I mess up somehow I spot new threads/posts pretty reliably.

Sorry, Accumulator, I don't have anything to contribute in terms of your original question, but I have to mention that I also close the trunks of our cars like you do :) With the MPV, first I pull the inside latch, and then I quickly move my hand onto the outside, and push down on the license plate. With our Acura I just grip anywhere I can on the inside, and like the trunk slowly come down by itself (well, slowly, but enough to close it), and I get my hand out of there as soon as I can :) I actually do the same with doors as well: I close using the inside handle and pull my hands out quickly :)
