State of the Union Address

Although you are correct about the electoral college, the actual vote totals were Obama 65,917,258 - Romney 60,932,235.

The real question is... how many of the 65,917,258 would like to recast their vote?

I'm pretty sure Romney votes wouldn't change their vote.

I just came across that. That is more recent than what I read. I was in fact wrong.

I'm sure majority would want to recast. His approval rating is roughly 43%. Other than "ObamaCare" what else has he done?

Sure it makes sense but I go back to the majority thing - somewhere there is a majority of votes that decided the election. The people of this majority is the problem!

Nothing to do with the democratic process. It's a people problem.

what else has he done' Well, probably screwed up this country for a generation. I have young grandchildren that as adults will be trying to undo the socialist bullxxxx of this eight year administration.

Personally I'm terrified of the 2016 election. Hopefully by then enough people will have had enough of failed liberal policies, and lean more toward the conservative candidate. If not, we aren't in for 8 years, we are in for 12 or even 16 years of it. If we loose in 2016 its over.

We do. But if you win the states with the largest number of electoral votes you don't have to have the majority of voters. Make sense?

This is why there was a debate whether the electoral college should be reconsidered after the 2012 election. If you play it properly you can win without the majority of the country.

Gore won the popular vote in 2000 over Bush. One's view on this situation depends on which candidate one wanted to win. It took the Supreme Court voting along political lines to resolve it.

The problem is really the voters. They will vote for their party despite being a nut just to prevent the other side from winning and in Washington the system is rigged to discourage bipartisanship now because interest groups can try to undercut a candidate with negatives ads to further an agenda.

Dont you think that Because of the President, the Congress has had a harder time trying to agree ?

Yes, they should Not let this be a factor, but I think it IS a factor and this too is very unfortunate..

What we should all do is everything we can to Remove as many of the non-working people who supposedly represent us (?) and replace them with people that are at least wanting to try to do good for this Nation and not for themselves...

El Presidento Teleprompto did what he did best - spin all kinds of wrong stuff to look right again, and the world will now be a happier place...

Did he really think that Iran is going to cut back on Nuclear weapons because some people told them to ?? Really?

So Dan, you don't think Iran and Syria are being handled correctly???

If they start to act up again, I'm sure we can get the United Nations to send em a more strongly worded "Please Play Nice" letter....

What do you people think about a 40% increase in the minimum wage as suggested/required?

The foundation is the electorate.
Good luck fixing that.

As long as people are getting "free stuff" (read entitlements) it won't get fixed till they run out of other peoples money. Right now it is a complete disincentive to work or better themselves

If McCain was president we would have invaded Iran too but kept people in Iraq and Afganistan and spent a few more trillion dollars. This approach has a better chance than calling people nasty names (chest thumping) as if that will solve anything.

And he said this where ??? (the invade iran part) ( but I do think I heard that as part of the dem campaign as well as if the repubs won they would be returning the us to slavery)

As far as keeping some service people in Iraq, that would have been the wise and prudent move

Republicans.

Democrats.

It doesn't matter. We are doomed. We've gone to far and can't go back. All our manufacturing is gone - we make nothing. Half the country is living off of some type of government entitlement. Taxes and healthcare are insane and out of control. Everyone is worried about why makes them happy and not what they need to do - which ultimately will make them unhappy. Attitudes and priorities need to change - they won't.

Lock your doors, buy some guns, and pray for Marshall Law.

Those people aren't running to get a job.

Raising the minimum wage to $10 is absolutely crazy... Not wrong, more like The Worst Wrong of wrongs....

So many people with education are working for that wage already...
These have worked hard to get there and unfortunately, this wage is not all that great either...

We should not throw in all the Losers who do nothing to even better themselves, and somehow, in some screwed up logic (?), think they are Entitled to make that much money through No, repeat, No, again - NO part of their own - EVER...

Sorry if this is offensive...

This nation of Nations was built on the hugely strong backs of all of our Ancestors, who came with very little to nothing, and sacrificed all their lives to better this place - Their Place, for their wives, children, parents, grandparents, etc...

None said "We are Entitled to making more money" - ever...

Instead, they all went out and used ingenuity, innovative, forward, thinking, trials and errors, and most of all, back breaking at times, hard, hard, work and sweat and blood...

Will We, in our much softer lives, ever, ever, ever be able to compare or even be in the same room of these Giants, upon whose mighty, welcoming, ever willing to bear, shoulders we stand on today ?????

No, sorry, no increase of anything until you EARN the raise because of your merit, your hard work, your sacrifices, your always being there, never complaining, whining, or too tired to work because you had to stay 1 hour late the day before...

When we someday learn - again - as our forefathers and ancestors learned now to work hard, for a common good, Together - and Together vote in or out, the best Balance of men and women to honor and respect the original Constitution, and come to understand that it was among many things designed to keep the Government in check, not the other way around, we will be treading water and not moving forward..

Sorry, I was wrong in one of my posts.

We won't be able to get the UN to write a strongly worded letter. The Russians will veto it.

So I guess that means we gotta send ol' helmet head to the mid east again to beg and plead.

1.You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2.What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3.The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4.You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!.

5.When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Unfortunately Hayek isn't required reading in high school.

At least my poor ol dad died before all of this, he would have been so disgusted. I'm thinking more and more about my daughter's idea to move to New Zealand. I guess I'd have to buy all new 50hz polishers but so be it!
