Hi to everyone Found HD uno in the UK by chance. I am using a Das 6 prp also have the new meg 220 and a mak 8020

The problem i am having is i am not getting the results you guys do

I had a 2010 Audi R8 cab to do the other day very few marks on it except on the engine lid there was a very small half circle which had burned into the clear coat.

You had to catch the light just right to see it, as i am an OLD type i would have removed it by using either 3M finese in the first instant working it gently by hand, that is how i saw the problem

So i thought try HD Uno with a 3M yellow padon the Das machine set to 4. It was quite a small area so i used 4 pea dots of product on the pad.

Uno just didnt seem to touch it i must have been applying pressure as the backing plate dug into the back of the yellow foam pad

Another question is how do you know when uno is worked in enough to remove or add more to the pad

As the pattern the pad produces dosent seem to change ie it does go clear

Please help as i have an old car i can pratice on it seems a great product it must be user error on my part which i want to get over

UNO is very pad dependent. 3M yellow is a polishing pad right? You'd need something more aggressive for deep scratches or for severe damage, wetsand and then use the UNO to clear up the sanding marks. But lastly, UNO isn't nearly as aggressive as some products out there, and Audi clear is very hard.

I used a yellow pad because of the polishing effect people talk about would a 3M green pad be better as its harder also how do you know when the product has broken down

Go with the most aggressive pad you have for the most correction. As far as working the product, it does not break down like a traditional polish, but it does have an effective use time, you just have to get used to it. You might want to find something other than an R8 to practice on though!

The R8 has gone out i cheated on the side of caution and tidied up the panel with some 3M finese as it is full of fillers

Not ideal i know but a means to an end i intend on having another go on the R8 when i feel confident with UNO

I just feel there should be instructions that treat us as knowing nothing, while they always assume we know something and feel embrassed to ask. Nowing nothing is a much stronger base to work from, as you are not biased from bad pratice

I was using the wrong pads for a while and becoming frustrated. The Megs. burgandy and the new orange UNO pads are working well for me. I have also used them with the new Megs. MF system and also good results. Yes, try a more aggressive pad. Also, I put more pressure nowadays and that is helping.

I love the burgandy pads with UNO too. Those pads get so little lovin' on here but they are my workhorse. I haven't touched wool in ages.

Not sure if you have the 3.0 Uno or an older one. The instructions have been improved on the 3.0. Here they are:

Directions:

For best results, the paint finish must be free of contaminants. Wash vehicle using detailing clay with lubricant to remove airborne particles. Works best with HD PAD System.

Shake Well Before Use. Apply HD UNO to a cool surface in a shaded area. Dispense enough polish to work on a 2’ by 2’ area. If your paint is in good condition, you may skip step 1.

Step 1 - CUT: If your paint needs cutting start with HD Orange cutting pad marked as

Step 1 or HD Wool Pad for more cutting power. Set buffer speed to 1,000 -

1,800 RPM. Work HD UNO using light to medium pressure in overlapping passes. To

prevent holograms and burning the paint, keep the pad moving at approximately 6-9” per second and do not buff dry. Remove polish residue with a clean microfiber towel. Repeat if necessary.

Step 2 - POLISH: To remove finer scratches, oxidation and compound swirl marks, attach

a HD Polishing Pad marked as Step 2 to your buffer and set the speed to 1,200 - 1,500

RPM. If you are using a DA polisher, set it to 5000 – 6800 OPM. Work HD UNO in

overlapping passes. Keep the pad moving at approximately 6-9” per second and do not buff dry. Remove polish residue with a clean microfiber towel. Repeat if necessary.

To inspect work, use 3D Final Touch or IPA and a clean dry microfiber polishing towel.

Step 3 - FINISH: To create an ultra-high-gloss, hologram-free final finish, attach HD

Red Finishing Pad marked as Step 3 to your buffer . Set the speed to 1,500-1800 RPM

or for DA polisher set to 4000 – 5000 OPM. Keep the finishing pad moving at

approximately 6” per second and buff until polish residue is almost completely gone. Repeat if necessary. Follow up with HD Poxy, a nano-polymer sealant, to enhance the gloss and achieve a long lasting, superior protection.
