Stained Exhaust Tip

hi there okay my exhaust tip is a single wall stainless steel and i have tried steel wool 0000 with windex and optium metal polish and eagle one nano wheel polish. And nothing works its like its stained with these spots everywhere. Anything you guys can suggest.

A SOS pad won't help? The only thing I can think of is maybe Flitz Metal Polish.

I've used an SOS pad in conjunction with Optimum metal polish, with great success.

Almost looks like failing chrome...



I had a header pipe that did that once... looked exactly the same. Actually failed due to heat... but thats odd being that far back on an exhaust system...

Have you tried Brasso?

no haven't tried brasso and its stainless steel not chrome

That almosty looks like a etching from a chemical as its random spots. I may not be correct, but Im almost positive that it looks like a acid stain. Ill bet someone used a hydrofloric on that tip. I have done it before in early days when Hydrofloric was real popular. The good thing is its only a tip a new one can be purchased and welded fairly cheap.

I totally missed it being stainless... Probably is an acid etch...

well I also tryed eagle one atoz and that has acid would that have caused it I hope not.

but that was months ago and if eagle one atoz is safe on all wheels with acid how is it not safe on stainless steel.
