SSR2.5 via PC w/ Sonus Orange is not doing jack...

I wouldn't worry too much about burning your paint, the PC is very forgiving. Don't be afraid to boost the dial to 5.5-6, I like it at 5-5.5 myself with SSR2.5. Apply ample pressure, just enough to not bog down the machine and don't use the handle. Grabbing at the top will give you a better sense of the pressure you're applying. It'll take some trial and error to find the sweet spot for pressure, but once you do you're golden.

You would have to really make an effort to ruin the paint with a PC. I mean, literally stand back and heave the machine itself at the paint! The PC is very forgiving and will not damage the paint. Slow your passes down to a crawl. Audi paint is really tough to work on. It may take you twice as long to obtain the results you want.

You have just been given a lot of great advice. One thing on the sonus orange pad, I have the propel orange which I think is the same, if you want it to cut you have to use a little pressure and move very slowly. I find I can create some heat doing this which helps the process. Don't be afraid to use ssr 3 if 2.5 won't cut it, but use a yellow cutting pad with ssr 3. Follow with 2.5 with polishing pad and maybe even ssr 1 to refine it even more.

Also maybe think about trying an area with a 4 inch spot cut pad, it allows you to concentrate the PC on a set area easier.

When I get home tonite I am going to Home Depot first to buy some of thoes halogen lights and then I am going to try out these new techniques on a small spot on my hood. Okay... Well again I didn't have much time but I thought I would give it a go. Went at it with the Sonus SFX Orange pad and SSR2.5 with more pressure and had the PC set on 5.5, then SSR2.5 on a Green DAS pad worked at a 5 setting on the PC, SSR1 on a Blue Sonus DAS pad worked at 5 on the PC, RMG with black LC pad worked at 5 on PC and rather quickly(waited 30 minutes) removed with yellow sonus microfiber bonnet used at 3.5 on PC and topped it with Souveran which I removed with a white Sonus microfiber bonnet set at 3.5 on the PC and followed up with a fluffy Pakshak microfiber and 4* QD. I can definetly see the improvement, actually it is nite and day but it is still far from perfect. I think that with a little more practice and better light I will be able to get it all out. BTW I never had a chance to get the halogen lights tonite and I was working with nothing but one of thoes little hand held flourecent lights. I also ordered some SSR3 today so I will use that for the heavier scratches. Here are 2 photos. Thanks again for all your help, more opinions or advise VERY wellcome.

As a bit of a noob myself, this is the best thread I've found yet on using the PC. Unfortunately, it confirms that I've not been doing things quite right, primarily moving too quickly. Heh, just the excuse I've been looking for to give it another go on the hood of the Miata!!

Looks like you're making progress, but you're also getting some marring. Be sure to break down the polish. I usually don't get any dusting unless I'm applying too much polish. You'll want to clean up the hazing & minor marring with SSR1/polish pad, once you have the swirls/scratches reduced.

I think that once I get some better lighting in my garage it will help allot. I can't see the polish very well so it is hard to tell when it breaks down. I know I shouldn't be working in poor lighting conditions but I am trying to make the best of my situation. BTW I did go over everything with SSR1 and a polish pad :grinno: I just need to do it better. I am just happy to notice atleasy some progress.
