SSR 2.5 Help

Warning I am New to using A PC and SSR anything.

Problem, ssr seems to dry very fast and become kinda clumpy, then it seems to smooth out when I use less pressure (going from the weight of my hands on the PC to actually lifting it up a little to allow the pad to pick up some speed).

I am using a PC 7336, speed set around 2 to 3 on the dial, with Edge 2000 orange pad, and of course SSR 2.5.
I am trying to remove minor swirls, and watermarks on Black paint and do not want to screw it up, any and all help is appreciated.

The EDGE Orange pad is more for polishing. Try the mild Green pad and see what you get. Then, if you have to, go to the yellow.

I don't think you'll get enough bite with orange pad in my experience.

Thanks for the threads, I figured out that I was A. Using too much product, and B. Working it way too long.

I have since finished the truck (we have about a week of rain forcast here in SC, and I had to complete the detail before it became a career. I will post a couple of pics (if the rain holds out) of the results. Thanks for the links, they all helped me out. Thanks again.

I hope that my next results with 2.5 are better. I too had a large amount of dust/chunks and the marring I was trying to remove did not come off very well even after three attempts with an orange pad. I was leary of going to a yellow pad due to the horrid dusting. It made such a mess that I had to rewash the car when done still not satisfied with the results. I went with SSR1 and things looked a little better but I was not pleased and gave up, going to a glaze to fill in what I could not remove......I was out of time for this job. I don't like doing things half assed and will likely ask this customer to let me redo the car for free even though they loved the look and tipped.

I was very disappointed in the Poorboys products but I feel the error was mine somehow. The half dozen other polishes I own have never caused a problem so I'm at a loss here. This was my first time using these two products....in the sun, temps were 95+, just like always.

I've used the PC for several years and never had a polish make such a mess and still not do the job. Clean pads, everything seemed to be right but..........?

I have the opposite experiences. I get great results with SSR2.5 with a polishing pad (color depends on mfg). No dusting, no clumping and just a great finish... This was using it on Speed 6, using the amount shown in the other thread and worked in until it was almost gone.

I am new to this polishing thing. I really cannot tell when I hace worked the polish enough. When i work it to being almost dry, The finish looks clearer, except it builds up on the pad. If I stop while the polish is wet. It looks like I did not do much to the paint. How do you tell?

Never thought about using SSR2.5 with my LC white polishing pad. I just figured it wouldn't be enough for minor marks. I love 2.5, but I have the worst time with dusting. Like this past weekend I didn't get all the fine dust off the surface so after I finished with my LSP the surface just didn't have that slick feel. I could feel the fine particles in the finish. Oh well. Atleast it looked good.

One thing I have learned is trail and error. The product appears to work slightly different on my two vehicles and I have made adjustments accordingly. I have read and reread the post on how to use numerous times since I typically am only doing the complete detail twice a year. Each time I pick up something that is helpful. The last time I detailed my car the results were the best yet. The dusting was minimal and the product amount seemed just right. For the 2.5 I am using an orange LC pad and try to do the work in the shade.

Good Luck,
