SSR 1 3M Black foam pad

I found a really good combination for polishing out medium to small swirls. I will call them swirls but they are really D/A marks, I used a Porter Cable with Wolfgang Black pad and it left MILLIONS of D/A marks on my black car. (I was trying to remove some deep scratches on the hood that the dealer installed for me for free)
I wonder if anyone else experienced this with the Porter Cable? (SSR 2.5 + Porter Cable + Black Wolfgang pad = MILLIONS of tiny D/A marks in the paint)

I tried 3M foam pad glaze and a 3M black pad on the rotary with no luck after 3 passes. - I thought I was going to have to wet sand the hood and fenders to get them like new again, the car is 3 weeks old.

I switched to SSR 1 and a 3M black foam pad on the rotary and this took every D/A mark out of the paint after 1 pass. I have to say I was impressed. I followed with Nattys blue and my problem is solved.

I've had wool pads leave their mark, and SSR 1 and a light-med cut pad always made it glossy again. I think you're on to something.

That black pad is a finsihing pad you would get better action from SSR1 with a polish pad it's what I use... then I use PB P-w-C another polishing pad and glaze by hand and finish by hand...What you did was not wrong but finihing pads are for like machine glazes and liquid waxes and the likes of that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again..there is no excact science to detailing and every paint finish is different and may react differently to a certain pad or technique. I knew with a little experimentation and your experience you would find the right combo to get the results I know are possible. sure glad you didn't have to go back to scratch :)

I am just brainwashed with the 3M chemicals. I am amazed when anything else works properly.

Can anyone comment about the D/A marks?
They didnt look like there was debris on the pad, the D/A marks were DENSE, as if the entire pad were scuffing the surface.

sometimes a product and pad just don't agree with eachother ...i prefer polishing and finishing pads for most jobs

Steve - any pad reccommendations for SSR 1 and a D/A pad? I dont want to experiment and get D/A marks all over my Cayenne again!

Of course this will be a reccommendation and I wont tke legal action if I am not happy with the results....

I like the Lake Country VC pads ...I get the best results from them personally.

Thanks Steve. I am still trying to get a grip on the Porter Cable.

Rotaty in my hands = swirl free finish

Porter Cable in my hands = D/A marks from hell. I think I am afraid to continue to experiment with the PC. I worked 4 hours on my truck to get the D/A marks out with the rotary and SSR1. I/ll try to get a picture to post so you can see what I am talking about. I just ordered EDGE 2000 pads for the rotary and the Porter Cable. I have Lake Country and 3M foam pads in my stock.
