Spring detailing supplies

I'm getting ready to start amassing supplies for a full on detail over Spring Break.

Anyway, I washed the car last weekend and guess what's back..the permawaterspots all over the car. It is very noticeable on the doors right under the windows, and the rear quarter. Last year when this happened I successfully removed the spots by using ScratchX over the entire car by random orbital.



My question is: Am I safe using this technique again?

The car has NO clearcoat left at all (it is 10 years old after all) and I DO NOT want to buff through the paint. I'm assuming ScratchX is not harsh enough to really do any damage when used with my POS random orbital?



Any advice?

Also suggestions on supplies would be helpful. As in: the cheapest place for good MF towels, etc.

Try using a medium cut foam pad. Just use your regular wax then apply it with your orbital, using moderate pressure. It should take off the water spots and leave a nice shine.

An extra coat of spray wax should help prevent the problem in the future.
 
Thank you for the reply. I am currently using this POS random orbital by Black and Decker that only has two kinds of pads (actually bonnets) It has a black foam pad, and a lambswool option. That's it. I am pretty much at the mercy of the products I use unfortunately.





Can anyone testify to the effectiveness of this product?



At the first sign of swirls, light scratches, and oxidation, use Poorboy’s Light Abrasive Super Swirl Remover in the pink lotion.

^how does that sealant compare with the KSG I used the last time?^
 
How do you know your car has no clear coat left? Is it oxidized or peeling? If it is just based off of "it is 10 years old" then you have more than you think. That said, any mild polish should do the trick just fine for you. (SratchX and Poorboy's swirl remover alike). What kind of car is it? This will give us an idea of the hardness of the paint you are dealing with.
 
I am going on the assumption that if my buffing pads some out red (color of the car) there is no clear left. Is this not the case?



It is a red 2000 Volvo S40 1.9T.

I finished my detail. Here's a few pics of my 10 year old cars paint!



Method:

1. Wash with Meg's Gold Class

2. Clay with Meg's clay

3. Wash with Meg's Gold Class

4. Polish with ScratchX on a foam bonnet

5. 6 coats of Poorboys EX-P sealant over 2 days

6. 1 coat of Natty's Red on top
