I myself have always use mf applicators but hear alot of people prefer sponge...like the megs applicators. Just wanted some oppinions.

A few threads kicking around on this.

Depends what you want to do. I had always used foam for waxes, and then started using soft MF applicators for sealants, but have recently found they absorb lots of product and waste it so have gone back to foam.

For normal hand polishing I use foam, but for more aggressive hand polishing I use the Sonus polishing MF hand pads or Terry towel.

I have the opposite experience with Souveran and MF pads. In fact, All I will use for LSP application by hand is MF pads ( I like Pakshak and the Meguiar's ones are good provided you hand wash them only)for both AIO and with Souveran with the spit shine technique. It's seldom I use the typical round, yellow foam ones. I do use more "spongy" kinds for applying interior dressings and I use terry to apply leather conditioner.

I find microfiber pads and towels to work better w/ most lsp's, especially those that recommend misting the applicator before application. When I use foam app.s, for some reason, when I mist them, the product becomes like cement on the surface.

I really like meguiar's new mf applicator. You can even get them @ Walmart or Pepboys for cheap.

- IMO faom is not all it is cracked up to be.

as a general rule I've found that foam applicators use less product-the MF applicators can be a bit grabby so they might work better with a easy spreading product like Reflections or UPP

Note that when people who get great results use diametrically opposed media, the media probably don't matter ;)

FWIW, I use foam for LSPs and MF for hand polishing. But I sincerely doubt that it matters in a functional sense, it's just a personal preference. Neither the foam or the MF will have any abrasive qualities, at least not when lubed with product, so while there might be some minor difference in how abrasive products act with one or the other, if you're getting the results you want that's all that matters.
