Sonus Polish vs 1Z...

As of now, Im a 1z user and im pretty happy with the 1z polishes but want a polish that contains no filler so I know if the car is definitely swirl free. I wanted to know which sonus polish compares with 1z paint polish and metallic polish. My guess would be SFX-2 compares with PP, maybe not as agressive and SFX-3 with metallic polish but with no polishing qualities.

Thanks

I think you're right about the comparison. SFX-3 as descriped by DavidB, is alot like a finishing show car glaze in that it'll build on sfx-2 results. I have the 3 polishes but have yet to try them on my car. I think Audipower loves the sonus polishes and has commented that sfx-2 removed most of the swirls found on his customers cars. Hope this helps!

I know some people have had good luck with the SFX polishes but I recommend you find try a different pure polish, such as Poorboy's SSR line. I have used all of the SFX polishes in various conditions, varying the amount of product used, the work time, and the speed and pad, and every single time the polishes have been a royal PITA to remove. Maybe they have been formulated for easier removal in the past two months but I want to give you a heads up.

Yeah I have the 1z metallic polish, havent used it yet and want something else. I just have a feeling its not what I want.

I also want something that doesnt have fillers and just gets rid of micro swirls. All I have left really.

Also what is 1z mp best at?

1Z UPP (no fillers or silicones) = SFX1

1Z PP (silicones present) = SFX2

1Z MP (silicones present) = SFX3

Both 1Z MP and SFX3 have very limited polishing capabilities and are meant to finish perfecting a near perfect finish. Most of the time you can go straight from 1Z PP to LSP, but I always like to use a cleaner step after PP, which I usually go with AIO or VM but if you prefer to stick with the 1Z line and aren't topping with a sealant, you can use MP. 1Z designed their GW to go right on top of their polishes so MP is a perfect intermediate from PP to GW. I must say that MP is one of my least used products, but only because I like to always use sealants.

If you're looking for a pure polish without oils/silicones, I'd go with 3M PI III RC and PI III MG. The RC isn't quite as aggressive as 1Z UPP but it does a great job. MG is = PP, but no oils.

Since the 1Z line is so user friendly and effective, you could always finish off a session with Menzerna FP to burnish the paint to a higher shine. This will help to remove the "residue" left behind by previous polishes as well. After the FP, lay down tome AIO, as it is a chemical cleaner and should remove what the FP doesn't.....

I almost always use FP as a last step polish before applying any finish.

I love SFX polishes. Especially for removing swirls. #3 is just stronger than AIO, but gets rid of light swirls and brings dull paint to life. Without cutting. #2 will get out swirls, oxidation and scratches that you can't feel with your finger nail. #1 is the shiz. It will remove the nastiest swirls, scratches and oxidation without bad marring. I had a car that horrible and I mean horrible oxidation and it removed it without nasty mirroring. I worked it with merzerna and it didn't help. I have a Audi and there clearcoats are a pain! There not as forgiving as American clear coats. The SFX buffed out one scuff mark and a couple of dings with no problem. I worked those areas with mezerna cutting polish for hours (5mins each) and barely worked.

I think the pads make it also. The SFX#1 pad doesn't cut as much as Orange DAS Pad, but that's good. So you can work it slowly. Only once out of 12 times I had to use the Orange pad.

I used 1Z for about the last 5 yrs or more and was always my favorite. Had a wide variety of products for anytype of problem, BUT Sonus has 3 that cures any problem. IT's alot easier and you can't make a mistake unless you can't read.

I can't wait till this snow gos away so I can go #3 on my Audi.

Yeah I have the das pads. Was thinking about the SFX polishes. Do you think they work better than the 1z?

Im looking to get I guess what works best. But wouldnt mind something that can take out light light micro scratches. Im thinking this would be my final product to get rid of these and then onto my wax.

Can anyone reccomend a selection for starting out or the autopian essentials?

1Z UPP (no fillers or silicones) .../B]

The 1Z Ultra that I've used *did* contain "wax" just like the PP and the (consumer) MP. Seems sorta weird given how aggressive the Ultra is....

The "Pro" version of MP has much less wax and a slightly stronger abrasive (still not much, if any stronger than Menzerna FP) and *IMO* doesn't do so much "filling" that you can't tell if you've really removed the marring. I really like this stuff and have quit using the consumer version of MP.

But I too like the 3M PI-III stuff. I use the 1Z Pro MP after 3M PI-III MG (05937) for a final, light polish as the MP is too mild to do any correcting on most of my vehicles.

I tried Gonzo's idea of using FP after the MP and couldn't tell any difference, even under magnification. But it did strip off the 1Z's wax and leave a nice clean finish. But again, this was on very hard paint and YYMV depending on the job. But note that we both like a final, "burnishing" polish step. It does make a subtle difference when you polish beyond what is required for marring removal.
