Sonus Der Wunder MF - Losing effectiveness?

I've been using the Sonus Der Wunder MF drying towels and really like them, but I've noticed that the more I wash them the less effective/absorbent they are becoming. I've followed the manufacturer's washing directions and washed them in warm water, used no fabric softener and dried them in the drier, but the last time I tried to dry my car with one it just seemed to push most of the water around. Anyone else experience this? What am I doing wrong?

Consider just air drying them and possibly add a touch of vinegar to the rinse cycle to allow remaining detergent to let go of the fibers.

This comes up time and time again...and not just with the Sonus ones.

There's an older thread here titled something like "I hate it when my WWMFs do this" where we beat the topic to death.

Short version: WWMFs seem to lose effectiveness. Maybe washing a zillion times *with no detergent* will help (gets out detergent residue), maybe *boiling* them will help, maybe using/discontinuing the use of vinegar will help, maybe nothing will help and you'll just have to buy new ones :nixweiss

Let's hope not, I've only used them three times. I was hoping for slightly better value than that...

Another suggestion: wash them separately from others to avoid cross contamination and if using w/ something like a QD wash them immediately.

BTW: does anyone out there really wash separate batches of MFs? is it overkill? I currently *do* subscribe to washing 3 groups:

drying MFs and glass MFs

polishing MFs

general purpose MFs

Hand wash them in Dawn dishsoap, then rinse with alot of water. IIRC microfiber towels love to pick up cotton linters which tend to reduce their performance.

I wash them separately like that too, except that I wash my glass ones separately and sometimes mix my polishing/general purpose ones depending on what I've been doing.

I have enough MFs on hand where I can warrant doing them separately. I have about 9-10 WWs, 16 or so polishing cloths and at least 25 utilities. When used they all are stored in a far away place in the garage where they won't pick up any further contaminants before washing

Another thing about WWs: I find mine perform better when they are slightly damp so I "prime" them by doing the windows first. I use a leaf blower to aid in drying and I be sure to leave my glass fully wet so I'm able to do this.
