Sonax NTS7 Glass Shield, in a word, streaky.

So I ordered some NTS7 Glass Shield along with my usualy Meguiar's NXT Glass Cleaner to see if it was any good as it say's it fills chips/cracks to help repel rain. Directions say to apply generously to surface. If anyone else decides to try this my recommendation is to NOT apply generously unless you want to wipe and buff for minutes trying to take out streaks. And after all the wiping I still think Meguiar's leaves a cleaner looking surface. Maybe it was the sealant properties or whatever of the NTS7 that made it seem not as clean. Still going to stick with NXT.

i haven't used either (NTS7 GS or NXT) that you mentioned, but one is similar to RainX and the other is just a glass cleaner, right? i don't see the comparison.:nixweiss

if the NTS7 is like RainX, i would think it will need a lot of buffing to eliminate streaks. my trick (with RainX) is to apply the product...let it dwell...then just wash the car as i normally do. never had streaks that way. the wash removes the excess and i don't have to fight the streaking. :)

Are you talking about the RainX glass treatment or the RainX glass cleaner?

NTS7 is a spray and I thought marketed more closely to NXT.

ALTANertive I totally understand your feeling regarding the NTS7. I really like many of the products, good quality stuff and easy to use, but that Glass Shield....in a word...SUCKS. I finally gave up on it and threw it away.

I understand their desire to make a product that repels water and bugs, like a rain x etc, but, the streaking issue was just too much of a pain to deal with. I tried everything from multiple MF's to newspaper and always the same end result.

My new favorite glass cleaner is the glass cleaner in the Meg's detailer line. Good stuff maynard.

i'm talking about the traditional RainX product that is meant to repel water...that is what the NTS7 seems to be targeting. mine comes in a spray bottle (but i remember it used to be sold in a plain bottle w/out spray nozzle)

from the product description:

"Sonax NTS7 Glass Cleaner is one of the company's latest breakthroughs. This unique formula incorporates the same nano-technology as NTS7 "Liquid Shield". Protective silicone has been reduced to nano-sized particles that fill the tiniest scratches and pores, creating a solid shield that repels dust and water. This process enables enhanced visibility for safer driving conditions."

EDIT: here is the NXT description...

"Specially formulated to deliver the best clarity against the toughest dirt and grime, NXT Generation® Glass Cleaner comes backed with a streak-free finish guarantee. Our advanced technology delivers streak-free no-haze perfect clarity and superior cleaning against smoke film, bugs, tree sap, grime and contaminants. Safe for all tinted windows, ammonia free."

sounds like it is more of a sealant/water repellent vs. a glass cleaner.

i also dislike RainX when applying...it's a pain to get it streak/smudge free. BUT, with the process i previously mentioned, it's super easy. i think it's worth a try for the people having problems w/ NTS7.

I too have tried NTS7 and find it a bit of work to buff to a clear shine. That said, I use the Big Blue III micro fiber towels and it goes on and buffs rather easily. The rain protection is great and all the beading drops seem to fly off. As an alternative and perhaps as good or better (certainly goes on easier) I use Eimann Fabrik Clear Vision II Glass Cleaner. This stuff works and the glass is almost invisible. Now, any suggestions out there for the plastic headlight covers on my '07 Mazda3 Sport? I don't need the products that claim to restore the cloudiness.

First post and look forward to more - I have been detailing over a year now as a personal passion/fanatic so have much to learn and can share a bit too.

Thanks All.

I really like NXT glass cleaner.

I hate RAINX window washer fluid. That stuff leaves a hazy type of film on the winshield and light glares from it.

I like Nostreek polish for my windshield. Easy application (almost apply it like wax, couple drops of NS on damp applicator, let haze, buff). Best part, it is super cheap. Check Amazon.

Yea, NXT is still my glass cleaner of choice.

Funny to see this thread pop up again

I use Opti-Seal or Duragloss 105 or 501 on my windows, and clean with a QD (ONR mix usually). It works great, often not requiring me not to use my wipers and no extra bottle of products just for glass sitting around
