Somewhat of a detail question...about painter's tape

Most times I'll remove the stripe and replace it..

Yeah, well, you have the skill to do that! Leaving aside the originality issue, I'd probably botch up a pinstripe application something fierce :o

..As far as the Griots masking stuff goes. Its very durale and pretty think. I had a car get transported back on an open trailer and when the customer seen it, he thoght I was nuts. I wrapped the wole front end, hood mirrior. It was like I was delivering a nw car. Except it comes off with no residue fast. Good Luck.

Ah, glad to hear that!

Kean- I get nervous about long-term use of tape...wonder if there might be some way to use pieces of MF or somesuch
....yeah, I thought about that to. I actually taped the small pieces to my pant leg a couple of times to help reduce the tack a bit more. It’s only for a couple of days at a time so I hope that it’s ok.

I mentioned it earlier but I have been using those soft ear plugs (I buy them in bulk) on the Forester as a temporary solution which seems to work “ok”. The Colgan I use on the Dodge is a little different in that the material they use on the inside of the J-hooks is already quite soft. However, there is quite a bit of tension at those contact points so I can imagine the added pressure amplifies the potential for damage as the material abrades the finish due to vibration, etc. My thought with the tape was that it might be best to place something on the paint (at those four locations) which will remain stationary and provide a surface to absorb any abrasions due to movement. Provided whatever I choose to use doesn’t in itself damage the paint. I grabbed the painters tape since I had it on hand but maybe something like the film Barry mentioned earlier? It would need to be removable/disposable since I don’t use the bra on a consistent basis.

Kean- I've had the "safe"/gentle tape pull the paint off when left on too long :o Messed up the "M" badge on my M3 but good and pulled a chunk of black paint off one of the door handles on my otherwise concours RX-7! It wasn't on the Mazda for very long either.

....thanks for the heads-up. I'll mull over some ideas this weekend to see if I can find a solution. Extra padding with a soft cloth (like the cut up MF towel you mentioned) may be the best compromise.
