Sometimes I'm ashamed of being a Human

Hell hath no fury like a Wal-Mart shopper, I guess. This is pathetic and sad at the same time. Not only the fact that a man was KILLED, but the fact that the shoppers complained about having to leave afterwards. :sadpace:

It's things like these that make me wonder how we (humans) have survived for so long.

It's a pretty sad day when people have to fight over saving a few dollars and a life is lost. There is no excuse for it, but maybe now the retailers will think twice about the logic of having these 4, 5, and 6 am sales. People get up at ungodly hours to stand in line getting worked into a frenzy over saving a few dollars. I guess now the states will have to call out the National Guard because of the idiots that stampede Black Friday sales.

The sad thing is this isn't anything new; almost 20 years ago my now ex-wife had a Cabbage Patch doll ripped out of her hands after she had stood in line for hours..... fortunately a man who just happened to have gotten two of the dolls saw what occurred and gave her one of his. I guess since he wasn't a pregnant female the animals decided to leave his dolls alone.

As Scott mentioned it was about 30 years ago, 1979, that 11 kids were killed in Cincinnati trying to get seats at a Who concert. That tragedy could in large part be blamed for the way the tickets were sold. Only 20% were reserved, the rest were general admission or festival seating as they called them. The problem with general admission is you're challenging the crowd to get to the best seats in the house first, essentially crating chaos and the ingredients for a stampede. Fortunately most rock concerts have given up the general admission concept as not feasible.

I used to wander out on Black Friday about 9 or 10 to places like Home Depot and Office Max, but I gave that up this year. There wasn't anything worth fighting those crowds and traffic for and I found everything I was wanting online.

<noun> People who stand in line at a store while the reciept checker marks your reciept. People who do not stand up for their rights.

I just ignore them and continue on my way out. Once I pay for something, it is my property.

There was a gun fight at TOYS-R-US somewhere in CALIFORNIA.

yup.

two guys pulled guns on each other after their wives started fighting. they shot each other and both of them died i believe.

These two acts of inhumanity are a prime reason I loathe the holiday season. :dig

PS: I also hate Walmart with a passion.

I felt bad about the story, but to find out that it was in my old "stomping ground" (area where I grew up), I was then just even more ashamed. From what I read, all the guy did was open the doors.

Hey howareb, I don't know how far ago you left but that whole area has turned into a full fledged shopping mecca. It used to be just the mall, sears, the home depot and the movie theaters. But there are at least 8 popular big stores added, apart from the ones I mentioned there is Circuit City and Target too. I'm not blaming Walmart but the management at this store should have known this could turn out badly given all the new stores in the area.

good point ^...

hopefully, next year they have some kind of controlled means to this. it's terrible that something like this has to happen for wal-mart to open their eyes for the safety/security of others (i'm sure it's been risky like this every year) and if you think about it, all 2000 or so of those people could just run in and take over the place and run out with stuff like they did in the LA riot's...

There's a lot of civil liability in this situation. I'm sure the lawsuits are coming (even from people who happened to scrape their arm on broken glass as they trampled a human being). It would be interesting to hear user name's input on this one.

Well I was there when green acres was nothing but a small mall and there was a big department store nameed Alexanders. We used to bowl at a 24hr bowling alley named Green Acers bowl. Circutcity is located in that area. It has been a while since I was there last, but I remember what it looked like when they added the first part to the mall. Now you are saying that the mall is even bigger. That is amazing. Las I was there, it was probably in the mid 1990's.

I remember when several people were trampled to death at a Who concert in the late 70s. Didn't take long for the "I'd walk all over you to see the Who" T-shirts were out.

Yeah this is one event that I hope that they do not make T-Shirts for.

As far as I'm concerned the potential for this happening is not limited to Wal-Mart. Every store that has those stupid sales at 4, 5, or 6 am creates the potential for mob mentality. Just Google Black Friday Violence and, unfortunately, you'll find many more instances where people were injured.

YouTube - playstation 3 riots. ps3 crowd rushing stores stampede

Ho, Ho, Ho, tis the season to be jolly :sadpace:

I remmember when the Movie theater used to be a drive-in

Yes Sunrise Cinemas was a drive-in at one time. Now that is going way back.

LOL !!! yes that was some time ago I remember when my parents used to pile all 6 of us in the station wagon and go there on a summer saturday night. Hang the speaker on the window and get the freshly mage hot butter popcorn .The good old days

You can bet there will be civil lawsuits for "WalMart not having adequate crowd control."

I guess when you have sales, you need to mark up the prices enough to cover the cost of a fleet of cops. It's sad that people can't be trusted to act like humans.

I hope, if nothing else, they arrest those customers that refused to leave for "trespass after warning."

Mike

The people, any and ALL of them, that had a part in that man's death should all spend some time inside the gas chamber. If you want electronics or some stupid DVD that badly then you deserve to be removed from the gene pool. We don't need you reproducing.

I read that they are checking out the camera's for possibly prosecuting some of those people with criminal offenses and they are trying to work out a new black friday strategy at all stores.
