The moderator at an oil forum had a Prius and a few months ago he said the GPS device told him to turn and he did.
Only problem was their was NO street their and he went over the curb and did a lot of damage to his Toyota.:crazy:

He traded for a brand new Toyota Hybriid and within two weeks he posted that while on the interstate he was passing a 18 wheeler and his lane ended and he floored it trying to beat the truck but didn't and he took out three barrels :eek:
doing considerable damage to his brand new car.

This idiot had to pass numerous signs telling him that his lane was closed but like so many people do he had to try to gain a few spots even if he had to cut of a truck to get in.:crazy2:

Well I think he got what he dissevered. :D
 
I read that same thread. He took out three cones that didn't leave any marks on the car. Where are you getting the "considerable damage" and "taking out three barrels" from?

I assume we are talking about the same guy not many prius drivers that moderate an oil site.

If driving At high speed hitting barrels did no damage then the Toy is better than I thought, but after 42 years of driving a 18 wheeler long distance I have seen enough of this sort of thing that I think anyone who tries this is a moron.

Also anyone who turns over the curb where their is no road because the GPS told him to is a moron.

I drove around 125,000 miles every year for 42 years without an accident and I never ever tried to turn where their was no road.

People who do these things are stupid.

What got me thinking about this guy was I saw on TV this morning about the guy JP posted about that turned into the train because his GPS told him to.
 
When I drove a 18 wheel truck for a living....you would be surprised how people would endanger themselves in order to get in front of me....No one likes to follow a truck up a hill or at all for that matter, but to put yourself in danger for it, is stupid!

And I pulled a real JA move tonight. Just got done driving from Pensacola to Tampa, 450 miles, seven hours, minus the hour-long nap somewhere in the middle. Nasty drive (note the time of my posting; it's now 3:20 a.m. local, and I have to be at a meeting at 11:00 tomorrow. Meant to leave sooner... Anyway, I was driving through a bunch of construction on I-10E in Tallahassee, and misinterpreted a merge where the left lane was closed off for construction. Found myself with an 18-wheeler to the right, traffic behind it, and my lane suddenly disappearing in front of me. Rather than pull a panic stop in the middle of I-10, I just had to gun it and go. The hybrid Camry really moves (it's actually faster than a previous generation V-6 Camry), but it wasn't enough. I steered/aimed to take out "only" the last three cones as I got past the big-rig. It worked, and the cones didn't even leave any noticeable marks (but they sure went flying nicely...). I'm sure that trucker has a great story about the insane A-hole in the black Camry, AND, I think I've trumped you for the major JA award for the day!


I still don't see where he hit barrels, just temporary cones. Those cones are quite soft and I could see them causing little damage. I've been caught off guard by a suddenly closing lane at night before.

And here is the post concerning the curb hit:

This weekend my wife and I drove up to Atlanta for the wedding of a frind of her’s. That’s about a 350 miles drive – no big deal in the Prius. After checking in at the hotel, we got dressed and headed for the location of the ceremony – the house of one of the parents. Less than a mile out, and confused because the NAV system had become confused, I looked at the screen for a moment misjudged a turn, and slammed into a curb, ripping the sidewall out of our right front tire – and making a very memorable sound in the process (think large bomb going off...).

The GPS didn't tell him to turn into the curb, it was acting up and he watching it instead of the turn. He cut the corner too close and hit the curb. It's an honest mistake and far from the "...turns over the curb where their is no road because the GPS told him to..." that your post states. I have hit a curb before when I cut a corner too close and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yes, both incidents could have been avoided But, I'd rather people see the original posts than an abbreviated and distorted version of them. It does make quite the difference in understanding what happened.
 
Yes that is the guy.
I was thinking he hit barrels. So it was cones still no excuse for being in a lane that you know is closed.
I also forgot it was night that makes it worse.
I think the time span from his first accident to the next was only about a month or so.
Speaks volumes about him don't it.

It is easy to make excuse for it but if he had not been trying to get ahead of other drivers it would not have happened.

Late at night when their are no cars the truckers stay in line and without the cars cutting in traffic flows at 60 mph.
This could work all the time if we did not have people that think they don't need to stay in line and they cause everyone to have to come to a crawl

Not only calling the guy a moron but can't even get the story right.........must be nice to be the perfect driver.
 
When I read the original post a few months ago I did not read it careful enough because I did not pickup on this but after seeing it again what he is saying don’t add up.

Something about this that don’t make sense.

When they close a lane on a Interstate they do not just put those small cones out.

First you will have several miles of signs warning of a lane closure.

Then they start the count down lane closed 1 mile ahead half mile ahead quarter mile ahead 500 feet ahead and then a flashing arrow pointing to the open lane.

When you get near to the flashing sign there are barrels forcing you over.
After you are in the correct lane they will use the cones down the center line to keep you from crossing over into the closed lane.

Sounds like he crossed over in the closed lane and when he came to where the pavement ended he cut back over in the right lane at high speed and took out three cones that would have been down the center line between lanes.

It is hard to believe that someone would do this but I have seen it done before.

I wonder why the 18 wheeler with all the traffic close behind was their where he could not cut over???? Could it be because everyone else was in the correct lane.

Now you are really reaching. Did this guy do something to you to cause you to reach such conclusions and interpretations of his posts?
