:howdy I'm detailing a White 2005 Chrysler 300 C. The paint was loaded with IFO it took 2 hrs to clay. The swirls are highly visible a deep. I used PBs SSR 2.5 with a PC and a LC 7".5" orange pad and worked it 3x, This seem to take forever. Then i brought out the Makita same pad and polish at speed 3,now this worked. Can i apply some pressure to the pad or let the weight of the machine work the product. I have only used the Makita 1 x but i am comfortable with it.

Next i was gonna use the CK VMHG with Moose wax as a LSP.
Do you think this will bring the white paint out if not im open to any suggestions.

I would let the machine do the work instead of applying extra pressure. It may take a little longer, but IMO it's a little more safe. I've heard really good things about VMHG and actually have a small amount of it from a trade a while back. I just haven't done a really light colored vehicle in a while so I haven't had a chance to use it. Some PB's regular PwC and Natty's have worked very well for me in the past.

Although many say not to put any pressure on the rotary and let the machine do the work, Joe. It has been my experience with my Vector rotary, that a little pressure can make a tremendous difference in correcting paint. I am not advocating pressure. I am just saying that a controled amount of pressure may help get the job done.

Do not let to much heat build up. Keep your speed low. Check your work often. Working in small areas until you are comfortable with the whole process. I know that you know this. Yet it has been my experience with the learning curve of a rotary that one can burn the paint all the while knowing what I just said.

Sometimes the rotary makes me forget the rules because the results are quicker. Flash times shorter. This all means that damage may not be far behind.

i have'nt had any practice with the makita so i dont have that learning curve yet.the swirls in this car are deep and i wont get the results with the PC that i'm looking for..
btw, the number dial is 1-6 what is this in terms of rpm's. what is the max i should kick it up too.

From just a quick search I found this from an Autopian review. Here is what I found.

"The no load speed of the Makita is 0-3000 RPM. That gives the user a lot of control on how fast the head will spin on the surface, as well as the ability to control the heat build up. The speed control is right by the back handle and is a dial type control. Speeds varied from 1-6, each setting a bit faster then the last. I have only used it on 1-3 and three being about 1500 RPM."

:howdy I have not responded because im going back forth polishing.
From all the information cwcad, djmegs has posted im using the Makita correctly,so this is a good thing. Cwcad i'm watching the flash time closely then checking my work from there. You have given me some good information that comes into play as i polish.
Audiboy,Thanks for the reply. I have used PBs PWC w/nattys with great results. I purchased some CK so im gonna start with the VMHG as i liked some of the pics posted using CK products.

DJmigs, Thanks for posting the information for the dialed NO's and RPM's.

Am glad that I could help.

I too am trying to detail. Unfortunately. it is inbetween rain drops this morning. Maybe it will clear by the afternoon.....???

Your welcome Joe,

YEP the smell is rather strong, also if your use to the pleasant smell of PBs products you'll be taken back a bit. I'm hoping the results will out weigh the odor.

I read the ingredients somewhere but don't have them on hand. I remember it said that it contains disiliates(sp) and other solvents.

I have nothing to add, but good lunk and have fun.
Thanks,I'm using Menzerna IP and it appears to finish up real nice. so far it looks like i can go right to the VMHG

after using IP with a wool pad and rotary the car has a nice smooth shiny finish. although the paint looks like a mirror would i have to step down to a finer polish? can i go right to my LSP?

A lot of times IP finishes off very nicely. To be truthful only you can decide on how it looks. If it were me, using IP for the first time with the rotary, I would do an area with a finer polish and see how it looks compared to IP.

Sometimes when using SSR 2.5 I can go to an LSP. Other times I have to use SSR1 then go to an LSP.

Here is a couple pics after the IP. I used SSR 1 on the right rear quarter panel & trunk deck and dont see any difference in the paint. The pics are after IP without the SSR 1.

Whatta you think about going to VMHG,if i did would i need to apply a LSP.

cwcad, Happy Memorial day.
Hope your enjoying the day.
did you have a chance to get your detail in yesterday?

Hi Joe!! Happy Memorial Day to you as well.

Wish I knew something about VMHG, but alas I have no real experience with it.

Looks like a real nice reflection on the side of the van. Since you are there ...you are the best judge of what is needed. Yet, I understand about wanting confirmation from someone with experience.

Yes, it did warm and dry up. Black truck got ProPolish and a coat of Liquid Souveran this weekend. Also got to work on a few things on my friends vehicle ranging from a short stint on a boat, scratch removal on a motorcylce and pickup truck. All ending with a big BBQ with all the trimmings. Eating all of this while watching a recorded version of the Indy 500. It sure was an exciting ending.

Hi cwcad,
Glad to see you got some detailing in,and a little BBQ.

I finally finished up the car Sunday afternoon. it was way more work then i anticipated due to the deep swirls. Not only did i use a rotary for the 1st time i also had to use the IP with a wool cutting pad to remove the swirls.
This car was a big learning experience and brought my skills much
further then they were. over all the client was very pleased.
Thanks for all the help and direction. I''m gonna load a few pics by tomorrow.
