Some bad halograms v. 2002 Z06...

The befores were

The afters

Awesome work Kevin :bow :bow :bow

I am surprised EC with a yellow did the trick on those. You must have had to make several passes to clear it up.

It looks like your Bimmer needs some lovin' :p

Hey man, I just did a C5 vette today and couldnt even dent the clearcoat with Megs #4 or ssr3 with LC orange or yellow pads, I moved upwards of 2000rpm!

The clear is redardedly hard, but it scratches easy, but doesnt correct easy. LOL another GREAT move by GM.

It is so hard because they had to switch to a VOC compliant catalst for the clear in 97. Ever since then, you are SOL.

So tell me, are the pics hiding something? Did the HTEC really cut and the 106ff really take out the haze? Im speechless if so. How many passes did you do?

I had to tuck my tail in between my legs today and tell my client I COULDNT correct his paint. (A 99 black C5 with 8 years of neglect, but plently of clear to work with...)

I really want to know how you did that...

My hypothesis on this is that the hack shop that buffed the paint removed all the marring, all that was left was wool cut holograms. These are generally mild (you can remove hologramming of this nature with a mild polish/pc on softer paints) and not very deep. To use, the rough compounding would be the first step, but for the hack shop, it was the last. Picus just had to clean up what remainied (on a Corvette's hard clearcoat, thats a job in itself).

Amazing work as usual Kevin! Out of all the cars I have done I have yet to do a modern vette and have never worked with their notorious hard clear! I have probably asked a million times, and I think you have said you use auto, but what settings are you using?!? I love your shots! I just got my Nikon D40x DLSR and want to photograph like you!!! :)

Thanks; yes all auto. Canon 300D, 17-35 Tamron lens, full auto. I tried another mode the other day on a lark and the pics all came out black. I will stick with auto. :)

Well I overlap when I do passes, so I'd say two passes of EC and one pass of 106ff. As TH0001 this car was hacked up with holograms (they were pretty deep), but a lot of the deeper marring was removed due to the hacking. That said, I have had good results on vette's before with deeper marring and similar combo's. See:

So ya, EC really did cut and 106ff took out the halo's it left behind. It took me a long time to find a process I like on vettes but I like this one.

Very nice job......:xyxthumbs

btw.....What is that peeking out of the garage behind the Vette.......?

Is that a Cuda.......?

Yep, '70 cuda aar. I worked on it last year; he's friends with the vette owner and let us use his driveway. :) The cuda has one of the nicest paintjobs I've ever seen:

Yep. These were some deep halograms, and of course it's a vette, so I needed to go a bit harsher than normal...

Perhaps... :p

more befores, I should have taken more, the roof, rear deck, rear quarters; they were all equally as bad. I honestly haven't seen halograms like this in a long time, maybe ever. I think you would have to *TRY* to screw something up this this.

The PTG was reading reasonably, a little low but not so low that I was concerned with failure. The halo's seemed to coincide with deeper marring, I guess the guy who used the rotary on it was trying to really lean into some of the scratches.

Anyway, this car is owned by a dealer, the car has been with him since January, hasn't sold, I met him today through a friend, very nice guy...

So, I hit it with:

HTEC+#80/yellow @ 1800

HTSC (soft cut)/white @ 1500

106ff/white @ 1300

Clearkote RMG

Souveran

Questions? Comments? Stupid Ottawa couldn't win the cup for Canada?

looks awesome. Ottawa seemed to have some jitters the whole series. They beat themselves last night.

Excellent work Kevin! If they are selling the car, I'd say at least a $2-3K increase in sale price.

I hope so; he's had it for 5 months and no sale, and the price is reasonable. Hopefully this will do it.

I thought that 'cuda looked familiar!.. It was in fact the one from your "About Us" page... (I did a school project off that template!)
