Soft, cheap WalMart WW towels

As with a lot of other products, that is not always the case. Just because something costs three times as much as something else doen't mean it will perform better. That's true with a lot of things other than detailing supplies.

I guess that's why this forum (and others) are so valuable! Word of mouth is great...

Thanks for the heads up Spilchy, I went and got 2 packs and as soon as I got home my wife spotted them and grabbed a pack! I havn't tried them out yet but they really do feel soft. At the very worst I got some good glass cleaning towels at a good price (I havn't found anything that works better on glass then WW).

Got some of these towels during lunchtime and they seem pretty good for the price. As I was removing the tags, I noticed that a few of the corners were heated to prevent the edging from fraying. Heated polyester becomes hard and will scratch the paint. Before you put this ww on your paint, check the corners.

Note: Not all the towels exhibited this problem.

Me too (I saw your other post). I noticed that as well on a couple of towels which leads me to believe the edging may marr the finish. But the towel portion itself passed the "cd test."

Like you, I won't be using them for hardcore paint work, but interiors, windows, catching drips here and there as well as drying bumpers, wheels, lower rockerpanels, etc...

Dont shop at Wal-Mart. This cant be reinforced enough.

Not to alter the course of this thread, but many folks live paycheck to paycheck on a tight, tight budget and WalMart provides an outlet for poor, working poor, lower class and middle class to be able to afford a multitude of items for their families (as well as cheap detailing supplies for me!)

There are many benefits to WalMart as well as many pitfalls. Even though they have low wages, half the folks I see employed at WalMart should be thankful that someone will give them a job. The debate is a good one, but not everyone shares the economic philosophy and / or the poilitcal views of those opposed to WalMart.

So a blanket statement like that will not stop me from buying WalMart WW's. I think we all have enough to worry about let alone the evil WalMart.

In my opinion, lets keep the thread about the product.

to go along with his find, i found a 25 pk of microfibers at sam's club for 12$, they seem decent...i'll post pics later
I got that 25 pack this weekend and I took a look and compared them to the same ones that I got from JT International several years back and they look and feel identical. I did the CD test as well and it took me really grinding the hell out of it on the CD before it would scratch. I would never do that to any car so I do not see why these would not be fine on paint.

Weve got the 16x16 blue 75% 25% in Atlantic at the supercenter. I think it was an 8 pack for $4.86. Ive bought 2 pack of those. Ive also got the yellow MFs from Samms club that my father in law had a the shop. Havent seen the need to order any others as of yet. We redid the mod at walmart the other day and added Meguiars gold and NXT in both paste and liquid form. Still have the mother CG in liquid. Dont have any good car wash soap or much in way of paint rejuvenators. RANDAL

Sorry to bring this back up, but I was thinking about picking some of these up. It says it's 77% polyester. Jngrbrdman said polyester would scratch the paint finish. Are these different somehow?

The thing most wrong with bath towels for drying is the fact that most of them use polyester fibers in them. The edge of the towel is polyester. In fact, the material that all that plushness is sewn onto is probably polyester. Polyester is stronger than steel comparatively and that isn’t a good idea to be dragging across your car. Its great for making bath towels last a really long time, but why would you want to risk damaging the finish of your car. Those fibers could cause micro scratches that dull your paint and detract from the reflectiveness.

I'm with you guys that say not to shop at Wal-Mart. I don't agree with the way they opperate, but I go there about once a month for a certain thing I need. Most of the time it's about 3 or 4AM when no other place is open.

 Way to stick to your convictions!

I've been using the towels the way I described previously with great success. Pefect for interiors and a nice extra towel for parts of the exterior.

Agreed. Even though I am not a huge waffle weave fan, these towels are a great buy for the price. Very absorbent. They linted until after the first few washes, but they have stopped doing that. All in all, a good towel to have.

And what's the big deal with shopping at China-Mart??? :)

I also am in "need" of things every once in a while from there at the wee hours...my item is in the pharmacy dept. and you can get different colors, textures, etc. One time use kind of things.

I purchased a couple packs of these towels (waffle weaves from Walmart) last year at Walmart Canada. One of the few times a Canadian Walmart had the same products for car care that the US stores have. Any way they were not bad. The thing is I wouldn't use them on paint and if I just want something for jambs, wheels, abd interiors there are better deals out there like the Sams 20 pack for $10.00.

They're pushing their suppliers so hard that a lot of them are having to move out of China and go to countries with an even lower labor rate. They have to do this just to sell to Wal-Mart at the price they want.
