So what texture pads are the most common for the rotary use?

Im trying to nail down what specific pads I want to keep in my arsenal now that Im going to be moving to a rotary.

So far... from all the reading Im doing... it seems 6" pads are the top choice for the rotary. For some reason I had a preconceived notion that the bigger pads were the "way to go" for the rotary. This is why I bought the E2K Wave 8" pack.. Yellow/Green/Blue/White. Now that I think of it I probably wont even use the white.. since Im gonna use my PC to apply LSPs.

Now, Ive already gone and ordered some 7.5" Curved Edge VC pads because I figured theyd be nice for both rotary and PC.

With all that said.. do I even need 8" pads? From the Edge pads which will I use most with the rotary? (color) From the LC lineup.. which will I use most with the rotary? (color) Should I go with E2K wave 6"ers?

Im trying to do two things here... figure out which ones Ill be "stapling" when using the rotary and at the same time eliminate the "waste of $" factor by not ordering pads I wont use with the rotary. (I still have a PC for LSPs)

Thanks in advance.... :buffing:

Im using the excel erasure pads on a 9227C. They work VERY well. Smaller pads sizes just give you a little more control, that's all.

I never really cared for the larger pads - they no longer have a place in my detailing arsenal.

6.5-6.75" is ideal with a 6" backing plate. For final finishing on dark colors, I like the Green P2..there's a reason these have such a huge following amongst top rotary guys like Kevin Farrel, Anthony O, and others - they are extremely flexible and forgiving. For more aggressive polishing and final finishing on white and silver, I like the white Lake Country VC pads available from properautocare.com...I even use these pads for compounding. I have nearly 40 different pads, but I use these two pads 90% of the time; try them and compare to any other pads you find and you will see :)

I love the Green P2s from excel. They hold up very well and are excellent with 106ff. I am going to order a few more just to have them around.

Edge 2000 Wave 8 inch Foam Pads

the only reason people go with 6-7 inches on a rotory is because the rotational speed of the extra inch on the out side makes burning the paint greater. Since a PC ossilates instead of rotate as its primary function, smaller pads heat up faster, which are more aggressive.

The nice thing about these types of pads is the fact that the waves help keep the pad temp down, so you can have the nice 8 inch size while being safer about burning paint.

Mind you i've gathered this info by what others have said and reading how the product is supposed to work as I do not have first hand experience with a rotoray... yet ;P

So is the green P2 Excel the same type foam as the LC greens?

Thanks for the help guys.

No, Propel and P2 pads are american buffing, Erasure pads are lake country.

George is correct. Lake Country Green is not the same...and even LC has different green pads within their own company...I don't like the Green LC variable contact pads.

Just so Im on the same page here... which is the better design?
