So what are these goofy sealants that dealers use?

So what are these sealants that various dealers use on new cars and charge an arm and a leg for and claim to last 3 years with no waxing.

My buddy just bought a new car and got conned into it along with the rustproofing and fabric protection. :doh

He thinks it's a special sealant that Joe average can't get anywhere that's made up of superduper, longlasting, dirt repelling, magic wand waving, Klasse/Zaino killing ingrediants. :lol

Ditto for products from AutoInt. They sell a lot of stuff that gets used and relabelled by dealers/manufacturers. Not bad stuff by any means, but nothing too special either.

Your buddy probably didn't get completely ripped off. Sure, he did for the fabric protection. But for the rustproofing, he probably came out okay. The "paint protection" can be good. I had it applied aftermarket to my Envoy, and it is working well. Water still beads well 19 months later and it looks very shiny. They applied it, and then baked in a heat oven. Unfortunately for me, it is swirled and microscratched now. So, I am going to strip it and start over on my own when the weather breaks. Anytime...
