So my problem is....

Wax Waster
Due to the heat exchanger on the hood of the car....

20150906_091931_zpsnutiie4v.jpg

When I wash then blow dry my car, I open the hood to get all the water trapped in the channels and the heat exchanger, the water runs all down the nose of the car. I use sonus motor kote to do the engine. So when the water runs down the nose and I try to dry the nose, it gets greasy smudges/streaks, terribly. If I just try to blow it off, it has leaves water/greasy streaks.

Any suggestions?

put a towel down on the nose to catch the water and stuff that runs down to the nose. Place it nice and tight to the panel gap and when it hinges up all the water should fall on it instead the car. Maybe an old drying towel that will absorb but you wont use other than that duty as it may be getting kinda grease.

I know exactly what you mean Ron! I worked on a Cobra with louvers like that on the front of the hood like yours and wrestled with washing, drying and polishing it until I just ended up removing that part of the hood until I was finished. Water always seemed to sneak out of there even after multiple uses of a blower.

I like trashmanssd's idea. I think the HD Guzzler would be perfect for something like that too.

Thanks guys. This is gonna drive me nuts. I have to clean engine/bay. I was windy the last few shows and got sand in there. With a big show this weekend, I need to clen entire car

lay down a mat or cardboard on the front bumper before opening the hood? I think a towel would get wet and still get the nose wet

His answer gave me another idea. Towel could let some the stuff filter through also it would blow off if your using a blower. Cardboard or a mat may scratch??

so my new thought is.

I used to have the same problem with the hatch on my 350Z when I washed. It would constantly get drips down the rear body no matter how I dried or blew it off. I ended up tucking a "absorber" under hatch to catch all the water. Thankfully I don't do that many bucket washes on the 350Z now and just do rinseless.

Hermano Ron,
Why is it - Quote - " it gets greasy smudges/streaks, terribly" in the first place ?

Is it possible to eliminate what causes this and then just have to deal with clean water running down the nose?

No clue what so ever. Might be solution gets caught around/under heat exchanger and areas around the air intake...
But that's just a guess, cuz I really can't see when I look for it.

I'm confused. Are the streaks from water dripping or from the Motor Kote?

If they are from dripping - do I final rinse with DI water. Then let it dry overnight or in the sun and just wipe it with a QD. A CR Spotless is a great tool here. A lot of times I wash my car and just let it drip dry in the garage overnight. No drying at all. Any "spots", wipe right off with a QD the next day.

If they are from MK - spray it on an applicator and apply it. I dunno. I know a lot of people like this product - but I've never used it. I just use whatever dressing on the engine - but I don't use spray dressings. I use gel and lotion types. Most seem to work well with an applicator. If it's a complex surface - I use Meg's D4510.
