So I am losing paint slickness after rain?

03COBRA

I miss my 03 Cobra......
This is my first winter and giving a crap about my cars paint. I have been into the detailing thing for about 6 months now and am experiencing my first rains. But I have been noticing that I am losing paint slickness after the rains. My paint is very slick on dry days but after the rain it has kind of a squeaky feel, not quite though. I currently am using VM/Ex-P on silver altima. Any ideas on a better winter product to keep that slickness. I have been using the new Meg's last touch professional QD, that seems to bring back some of the slickness after the wash. Is this just normal for rain, or am I not using the right product for winter. Any odeas would be great, thanks.

If you are parking under trees on rainy days, that can really contribute to the problem. Does the slickness come back at all after you wash your car? When you wipe off the QD, does the towel drag at all? If the QD comes off easily, that normally means the paint is still protected. BTW, for some reason, the regular EX seems to stay slicker longer for me than EX-P...but I really like the look of EX-P on lighter colors and pearls. What to do, what to do?

I've been having real good results with Meguiars #16. For example, I applied it to a Ford Expidition about 4 weeks ago. The next week, it rained most the week but mostly dry the last two. Today, at the 4 week point, it was still beading like crazy and when I would spray it down (this is at the office with the water deionizer they want me to put to good use), the water beads would literally race down the sides of the Expidition. Paint still feels noticably slick too.

I notice the same thing after a rain but the slickness comes back after I wash. I had attributed it pollution, fallout, etc.

I think environemental conditions will determine how slick your paint feels after it rains but most will agree that some slickness is lost. Using a good QD should bring the slickness right back though.

The best QD's for slickness that I've used are Z-6, Quikshine, and WG. I've used the Meg's QD's but I haven't really been impressed with them (although the gallon prices certainly are good.)
