So how long do pads generally last?

Assuming that I wont be doing any heavy duty ozidized or faded paint jobs...just light-medium swirl and scratch removing.............how long do pads usually last? Im hoping they are good for multiple uses, if maintained/cleaned properly.
 
My Propels are still holding up after well over a year. I've put them through a lot of use, including on heavy oxidation and swirls, use by rotary, and extended periods on speed 6.
 
Seems like the aggressiveness of the work makes a huge difference- applying LSPs isn't very hard on pads but compounding is.



I've been using the same finshing pads to apply some LSPs for *years*. The ones I use with #16 on the Cyclo were old when I moved into this house and that was five years ago.



But the pads I use with RCs only last a few vehicles before they start to lose a little cut. Pads I use with milder polishes fall in the middle, no real way to predict when they'll start to go. But it's not like they're shot after five or six vehicles.
 
knowing most of us have different pads which plays a slight role....

one dealer told me two uses and there gone.....LOL :eek:



i have proven that wrong since i have pass 2 use mark....

washing and how well you take care of your pad plays a role too.



im glad to hear some of us got 10 uses orther more.....

When I worked a a GM dealership years ago, the tech that did all the polishing/buffing would leave pads out on a cart constantly, never washing them. He would also throw them away after only a couple uses.
 
That tech wasn't paying for the pads, I'll bet. If I was his supervisor, I'd have him washing pads every time he turned the buffer off. Hehe...I don't think people would like to work for me, even for good pay.
 
No I'm sure he wasn't. The real sad part is, he had been doing this for 20+ years. I can't imagine how many sub-par paint jobs left the body shop.
