Snow Skis and Boots

Are Axium skis and Nordica boots a decent brand?

Someone is selling 177 Axium skis and size 13 Nordica Boots (I am a big guy) for $175.

This would be my first pair of skis and boots (have always rented when I went). I ski a few times a year, not a skiing nut who travels all over the country so I would like a decent brand for a good price but they don't have to be top of the line.

Its hard to tell without model numbers and the age. Do you need the skiis now? If you can wait till spring, the prices get to about 25 cents on the dollars on ebay, at least half off in stores, usually more than that.

Skis have been used twice, (Guy blew out his knee).

Must be the skis.

Just kidding.

I don't know which particular skis they are but my friends who ski Rossi's seem to be happy with them.

I believe that Rossi called the Axium STX XPI an "all mountain" ski (I believe there were other Axium models though). All mountain skis are usually a good choice because they aren't designed to do just one thing well while doing everything else poorly.

Nordica has some of the most effective boot designs in the business. But it doesn't matter how well made a boot is if it doesn't fit you. Don't buy them if they don't fit right.

All boots come with footbeds that are totally garbage . They expect you to put in your own so they don't bother putting in anything even remotely usable. If you don't want to spring for custom made orthotics at least get a set of Superfeet (green or red, not the cork).

The boots are Nordica F6 size 335mm, and the skis are Rossignol Axium skis

I guess my question would be, is $175 good for this combo which has been used twice? If so, I will call the guy back and tell him of the boots fit right, I will probably buy them.

There were different skis in the Axium line. But unless they're something specialized like a twin-tip I would guess that they're a general purpose all-mountain design.

As to whether they're a good deal, I couldn't tell you. Used ski prices vary by geographical area and season (the last time I bought used ski was many years ago, it was July and about 100 degrees outside). I'm not at all familiar with your neighborhood.

That is substantially less than what he paid for them new. If he didn't bash them up in those two days of use they probably aren't a bad deal.
