my nephew just received a 1998 explorer from his father that used to drag around his two labadors in it, while going to the farm to get hay and corn. The smell is awful...any of you professional detailers have a way to get this out of the car... i have vacummed it, used a extractor on it and also went to the pet store to get Nature's Miracle spray to spray in there. there are still quite a bit of dog hairs that I couldn't get out since they are embedded in the carpet. any help is appreciated...
 
your not going to get rid of the smell unless the problem is gone.....you need to remove the hair....its probably wet dog hair that has dried, but that wet dog smells soooooo bad....I think you might also find those odor bombs or a Ozone machine usefull
 
The odor is permiating everything. So it is not just a HWE the carpet. IT is clean the:

headliner,

dash,

vents,

seats,

rear cargo,

all plastics,

and carpets.



then once you have removed the contaminating material like toyotaguy says. you will probably need to Ozone the care to destroy any remaingin odor molecules. After that I would introduce a new cent.

Lemon, leather, Citrus were allways my customers favorites.
 
Use rubber gloves(just run your hand over the fabric) to remove the dog hair (latex not vinyl) it will remove the major part of it, in addition to the suggested clean up from the previous post , I suggest going over the carpeted and upholstered surfaces with plain water treated with an odor eliminator (enzyme based) Good Luck.
 
also, check the cabin air filter to replace that as the smell has filtered that and everytime you turn on the air, you are letting that smell back in....



take out the filter completely, let the air run for a little while to circulate, then install a brand new filter and the smell wont be as potent coming from the AC/air system
 
Thanks everyone, I will let you know the outcome...hopefully it will be a better smell then the down on the farm smell. :)

Just turn the AC on max circulate, spray for a good 15-20 seconds to fill the interior, then let it circulate for 10 minutes, turn the AC off, let it sit for an hour. I haven't met an odor yet that it wouldn't take out. Their instructions say to lock the spray on and use the whole can, but thats not necessary for a car-sized problem.
 
Normally the fogger is used after a ozone. but yeah... I've had to fogg houses where deat nutria have decomposed underneath. works great. Citrus,and leather... some times cherry.
 
I bought the dog hair remover mitt thing off autogeek. I havent tried it out yet but that might work. Or you could just use some of that velcro stuff.
 
Meguiar's Hair Remover Brush is awesome for Dog hair. Grabs enough so that you don't rough up the carpet or interior material.
