Small Hondas Are HOT...

I don't think I would go on a waiting list for a Civic. The Ford, Chevy, etc. dealers have plenty of small cars ready to buy that get 30 mpg.

yes they do, but they don't have the reliablility and reputation that honda does.

That may be so, but is there reliability the same?

IMO the fit is just to expensive, i could buy a civic for a few thousand more... I really like the design but i cant justify the price

A car is as reliable as the person taking care of it.

I have been buying domestic built cars all my life and never had any problems.

I suppose if you rely on Car and Driver or Consumer reports for your auto buying advice you may never even consider a domestic car.

Shame.

By biggest gripe is the domestic automakers aren't squeezing as much MPG out of their small cars as the Japanese are.

This isn't true....now we're talking about two different things when you get into how a person takes care of their car vs. reliabilty of the automobile itself.

The key word here is "reputation". Domestics have not had a very good reputation for reliability. As we all know reputations are hard to lose. Domestics have come a long way in reliability and there is not as much of a difference in reliability as there once was. The problem is there is still the lingering perception.

No matter that the Honda is overpriced. It is a much more reliable car than Audi. The resale vaule is way better and you still get more for your money in long run. Just no contest.

Indeed reputations are very hard to change.

Most of you are too young to remember the Hondas of the 70s and 80s that were rusted out after a year of use. Honda worked very hard in the 90s to improve their quality and their reputation and have been sucessful at it.

The domestics have improved as well.

I am a really responsible owner, but i've had 2 different saturns completely crap out on my untill I've got my honda.

the first turned out to be a lemon and had to pay half for an engine, and the second one started to burn oil around 30k miles... and became ungodly around 40k. My mom took it cuz she needed a car very seldomly and lasted to about 70k with about 1 qt a every 100 mi.

Found a nice little 92 civic for her with 170k and she loves it. Says it the best car she ever had ^_^ (and she said she understands why I love my car so much)

Put a deposit on a Fit S manual on 7/26/06. Took delivery on 3/27/07. 8 month wait for me. Car is built solid, no squeeks, very quick and nimble. Looks small on the outside but roomy inside. Built in Japan. Already got an offer from a friend to buy it off me for more than what I paid for it. Turned it down. Time to go wash, clay, wash.......Z-CS.

Man this is crazy how long people are waiting for Fit's

I showed some interest earlier this year and talked to a salesman at my local Honda dealership. Within 2 months he called me and told me if I wanted one he had two on the lot but they wouldn't last long, I still get calls from the dealership whenever they have some come in.

There are about 5 I see driving around town on a regular basis, cool little cars IMO

Um, I wasnt old enough but my dad rallied those initial honda's and his experiences with them has led him to support Honda since then. Civics, integra's, etc. Haha, this is a honda household, the ugly rav4 sitting in my garage is the only exception and one of these days Im gonna set it on fire, I hate toyota, even if they are reliable...

:2thumbs: Congratulations on your new Fit!! That was a LONG wait!! My son put a deposit on his 04/30/06 & took delivery 05/30/06 - and he thought THAT was long!! :wall

What colour did you get?

:tumblewee :ca

Thanks.

Storm Silver Metallic. Washed it yesterday and found ZERO scratches. A first for me. My long wait was due to the 5-sp manual. For every 12-15 Fits ordered by the dealer only 1 is MT. The rest are AT. Hence the wait.

I've never been a fan of Honda's. If I just wanted a good beater I may pick up a civic or something just because of the cost and reliability. Personally though, my next car will probably be a new Rabbit or Jetta when the TDI (common rail) returns to the US. Great fuel economy and IMO a much better looking car. Plus the interiors are more upscale in look and feel than most of the Japanese entry imports.

Stop by my local honda dealer and they had 5 honda fit's and the back lot was so full of civic's i was dumbfound by so many cars in their back lot. This is the first time i ever saw that many honda's in a dealer's lot. Far as i could tell they are very slow and crazy to sell cars, but would not deal with me, so i said goodbye. P.S did not see one person at the dealer to buy or shop for a car.

I really like the VW TDIs and 2.0 Ts, but have been put off by VW's quaility issues. They continually rank in the bottom of JD Powers surveys and IIRC, don't have a single vehicle on CR's recommended list.

Hopefully VW has solved these issues because there are 4 or 5 models I would be very happy with.
