Small Hondas Are HOT...

Yeah im not a fan of Honda at all, they just arent any fun. I had a 97 Civic Ex as my first car and i thought it was the coolest thing ever, well until i took a ride in my frends Z28. I immediatley started looking for an f-body but i had to settle for a V6 firebird after i totaled my civic. Being 17 at the time, i ran the hell out of the thing, and it ran perfect right up until i sold it when it had 170K on it, and ive talked to the girl that has it now and it still runs great. Im hoping to get the same out of my Trans Am before i have to rebuild it, and it shouldnt be too much to hope for at all. Plus, 28mpg on the highway and 23-24 in the city inst bad AT ALL for a 5.7L V8 that makes 335hp...

I really like the VW TDIs and 2.0 Ts, but have been put off by VW's quaility issues. They continually rank in the bottom of JD Powers surveys and IIRC, don't have a single vehicle on CR's recommended list.

Hopefully VW has solved these issues because there are 4 or 5 models I would be very happy with.

Yeah I see those too. I'm on my 4th Volkswagen now. Never had a problem with any of them (knock on wood). My 2000 Golf took me 100,000+ with only a clutch replacement after 65,000 modified miles. I think the quality of the MKV is higher than the MKIV was. There were a few problems with them but mostly electrical gremlins and such.

Right now my wife and I both have 06 VW's. So far so good.

Needless to say I don't put much faith in JD Powers and CR is total trash. They need to stick with what they know which is nothing.

How is CR total trash, please elaborate. For previous gen, Golf and Jetta I constantly hear about electrical issues left and right, and it is reflected in the reports. Lexuses, on the other hand, have very very few issues, and receive great scores. Saying that CR is total trash without any elaboration/evidence is pointless.

I actually wrote a paper in school last semester about how worthless Consumer Reports when it comes to cars. I had a bunch of examples to back up my argument, ill see if i can find the paper and share some of those reasons. I remember one of the main reasons was that they ask the readers about the reliability of their car, and ask them to rate the seriousness of the issue. So theyre asking readers, who maybe have no mechanical expertise at all when it comes to cars, to rate the problems on their vehicles. That can be VERY opinionated, since an issue with a car can be considered serious by one person and not so serious by another. There is also MANY instances where they put some cars into the same group when their drivetrain is completley different, ect. which will flaw the results.

Ill see if i can find the paper though, it was a very fun paper to watch and i learned a lot that i didnt know about them while i was researching everything for the paper. I think it may be at home on my computer though. Lets just say that even my dad, who has never bought anything other than a Honda, doesnt trust CR for cars anymore either.

In central NC there are planty of new Civics and a few Fits, damn I just couldn't buy a car named "Fit", but that's me. I'm currently in the market for a good small car, dependable and great mpg. I had a VW Jetta - kept it for a year, 30 mpg and great fit/finish, had a few minor issues that the dealer fixed promptly but noooooooo, I had to trade and get a new Rav4, nice, but the payments are breakin my balls! So, it's sell the Rav4, and buy something used - I'm lookin VW, every Honda I see - they want an arm and leg for and it has high miles. At least VW's are reasonable. And I don't put much faith in Consumer Distorts either, all you have to do is read some of the idiots writing reviews on C&D's consumer reviews to know where CR is coming from. My biggest laugh the other day was reading their lawn mower picks (I use to do lawn care on the side) - now it's Detailing!

Here in the Uk we have been trading in our Jazz (fit) every year for the past 3 years for amazing amounts and getting a new one. Supply is limited and people wanted to buy used so we have really cashed.

I hear the new one is due late 2007 early 2008, i dont know when it will be avalible in the USA.

Geoff

PS. Consumer reports are important even if they are wrong!! If people believe them that will effect the used/retail price, discounts and/or demand of vehical. Presuming its standard, in general.

Will "reliability & quality" be affected by a switch in country of manufacture?

The Honda Jazz (Fit) is now sourced from (Jan'07) Thailand for sale here in Oz. (And elsewherw???)

It's the same car with more goodies sold cheaper but now put together in a Japanese factory in Thailand.

There are now BMW factories in South Africa & the USA.

VW has em in South Africa too.

Ford has em everywhere. GM & its equivalent's also everywhere...

The list goes on & we are told it makes no difference, but I know many people who will not purchase a car made in South Korea, the US or other "traditional" places of origin.

It's so confusing... :hairpull

My 99 SS Camaro gets 32 mpg on the highway. Its pretty sad when these little hondas making no power can barely get what I get out of my 335hp 5.7 liter 347 cubic inch old school tech V8. :spit:

Fits around here have an ADDED $4,000 on the window. They're still hot sellers and from what I've seen spoken for before they even arrive. Was there EVER a waiting list for that 335hp Camaro?

Spring time in Wyoming:

I use wet dryer softener sheets to get them off my grill guard and Meguiar's Detailer Line glass cleaner to remove them from the windshield of my F250.

People in Southern California pay $4,000 extra because they can't afford $3.29 regular gasoline. Fuel wouldn't cost so much if all Californians took Sheryl Crow's advice and used only one square of toilet paper per bathroom visit.

And how much TP one uses has what exactly to do with the price of gas? This thread must hit a sore spot with you??

Never mind. You're in Southern California.
