SLK230's getting a bad reputation?

I think you need to drive a lot of these cars and see which one suits your needs the most. Personally I need handling, and sportiness in my ride. Maybe you want a little less sportiness and more comfort? More practicality? Maybe you want good looks.



Friends tend to get too caught up in specs, etc. If the car isn't too slow for you, then that's good enough. Half of the people out there with fast cars don't even drive hard other than between stoplights! LOL.



The decision is all on you.

I like the car but everyone else says they are horrible performance-wise and just a cheap camry with lexus badges. I really like the car, though, so I may end up picking it up... if for nothing else, it is better financial decision. I'll drive it for a year or so then sell it for a more expensive car... and still probably make a thousand or two off of it. Plus I'm sure I'd get a HUGE break on the sales tax this way.

Didn't you say the other day you almost killed yourself racing an M3? Maybe you should get something that lacks in performance. I hate to sound like someone's mom, but you sound like every other teenager I know. You'll change cars like underwear, and you'll probably total a few before you realize what's going on.



One of my mom's friends from work has a son your age. He's had 2 cars, and he's totaled both of them since he could drive. Now his mom thinks mine is crazy having bought me a used Lexus. It's kids like these that make people think I'm the typical irresponsible dumb *** teenager.



Maybe you should keep your Del Sol until get through college. It's just as practical as the SLK320, probably just as fast, kind of a convertable, and way more reliable than the SLK would be.
 
What kind of lexus did you get?



I'm not the typical irresponsible teenager at all... I only have raced at times where I knew it was safe, and have never been in any accidents or near-accidents since I could drive other than Friday. I also know every inch of my cars. Friday was a scary thing, but it was my error in judgement for racing at that time, when an old guy just happened to pull out in front of me. I did spin out, but was able to control the car to the point of not hitting anything. Nobody was able to tell me WHY my rear end swung out the way it did with what happened... it was just one of those things that I couldn't plan for. And those unexpected variables are why I no longer want to race my cars... since I am responsible and do not want the consequences of getting into an accident.



I'm not looking for another 12-second car... I don't need it... but i'm looking for something with enough power to accelerate at a reasonable speed
 
You spun out while racing another car on the road? What were the circumstances?



Eeek, hope you know what you are doing behind the wheel. Usually having the need to race other fast cars on the road indicates immaturity, but you know yourself better than I do. People have tried to race me in a few of my cars, especially when they were new, and I usually look at them like they are idiots.



I'm not that much older you, and can tell you that a few years makes all the difference. Most people can look at their younger self and realize how much better their judgement has become. Then at some point, it starts to decline again, but maybe not till you are past 60.



Anyway, sounds like you are just looking for a "nice" car, judging by the variety of cars on your list. Good luck.
 
Well, my side of the road was completely empty. It was light, weather was fine, and a guy in his late 50's was next to me at a stoplight driving a brand new M3. Really beautiful car. The light turned green, he reved up and took off... I ended up in the lead, when an old guy in a crown victoria pulled out in front of me on the otherwise empty street. I did not have time to hit the breaks, so I had to steer to avoid him, and the rear end on my car ended up sliding out. I did a 180 on the street, and avoided hitting a few cars... and ended up right in the turning lane.
