Slightly off topic - will Klasse AIO bond to aluminum?

I have a potential non-detailing application for Klasse AIO (moderators, my appologies if this isn't in the appropriate forum).

Basically, I'm making compression molds out of aluminum to pattern silicone. Silicone sticks to bare aluminum, but doesn't stick very well to acrylic (ideally i'd be making the molds out of teflon/PTFE or polypropylene, but there are other issues).

If i spread some AIO over the bare aluminum surface and then wipe off as much as I can, will the AIO bind to the aluminum?

Thanks

Can't say for sure, but since it works pretty well for me over glass, I don't see why not.

It doesn't last as long on glass as it does on paint, though, so I'm guessing the same will be true with aluminium as it's impermeable like glass.

Yes, the (minimal) stuff that AIO leaves behind bonds to bare aluminum. This was determined by Danase (posting under his previous user-name) a while back and is definitely true.

But I'd use a mold-release product (e.g., mold-release wax) from Meguiar's or FinishKare. This is what they're made for and they'd work a lot better than AIO.

hmmm. Are these waxes similar in texture to carnuba wax? I'll look into it more. Thanks.

I don't really know anything about them. But when something's called "mold release wax" and it's been around forever, I figure that's the product you'd want for this.

Maximum Mold Release Wax

* The industry's first and still most widely used mold release wax

* Wax of choice when maximum release power is required

* Excellent for breaking in new molds and tooling
