Six Products

Well, I could live on Meal Replacement shakes and tap water if I had to too ;)

Its always fun to see what your favorites really are! Kind of humorous to see two washes and no QD!

Assuming I'm dealing with one of my cars that are already in good shape -

- Duragloss car wash

- Miscellaneous APC (Probably OPC, but Megs APC+, Adam's APC, or Zep Citrus would be fine)

- CG Pete's 53

- CG VRP

- Menzerna 106fa

- Griot's clay (yes, I like the stickiness)

I could get by with that, but realistically I'd like to add two waxes (AG HD and 476), M105 for tougher jobs, and a detail spray.

The Big Six

Malco Ultra Violet Wash/Wax

Annihalator Solvent

Malco Non Amonia Foaming Glass Cleaner

Nano Care Cleaner Wax

Aqua Bead Tire Shine

Showroom Shine Spray Wax/Detailer

That is a good travel kit!

Well, I was thinking of the TAW as an APC that'll do most anything.

But eh....much as I like QDing as I dry, I got by fine without any QD for decades.

Interior, exterior and engine? I don't think I could with just 6. Well..maybe if I used an APC for everything, but I wouldn't want to.

Not sure who it was, perhaps Barry, that mentioned you only really need six products for detailing. Assuming chemicals not media, what are your six?

Me:

ONR

Megs APC+

Clay Magic

303

UNO

ZAIO

I think "Detailing" and the "Six products" need to be clarified as one mans detailing is not the same as another. Doing high end work, no fnnn way.

Very basic High volume work:

  1. Car soap
  2. AIO polish
  3. APC
  4. Wheel Cleaner (APC is not cutting it for high volume on wheels, sorry)
  5. Glass Cleaner
  6. Interior dressing
  7. Exterior dressing

I also don't feel interior and exterior dressing should be interchanged. 303 is great for interiors but it falls flat on it's face when used for tires. Used car dealers what a durable tire dressing that will keep the tires looking nice for weeks. At the same time they don't want greasy, slimy, high gloss interior dressings either.

When I worked high volume we had the following:

  1. Car Soap
  2. Compound
  3. Polish
  4. Quick liquid wax
  5. Paste wax (retail jobs)
  6. Lacquer thinner
  7. Tire dressing
  8. interior dressing
  9. Air freshener
  10. glass cleaner
  11. Semi-gloss black paint
  12. Quick shine (Aerosol for dash vents and other hard to dress areas)
  13. We had clay but it was reserved for over spray jobs

I understand Barry's point, but it really comes down to the type of work you are doing and the caliber of cars you're working on.

Just my $.02

I have a looooong way to go before I get down to six products lol. However, as I learn more about detailing and educating myself about the many products for sale, I'm slowly starting to get there.

1.gold class wash

2.stoners invisible glass

3.Color X

4.Endurance Tire Gel

5.Meg's Natural shine interior

6.LA's Totally Awesome APC

I pretty much agree with the six product approach of we don't include corrections work because different paints need different products for correction.
