SIP + PFW = removing wetsanding scratches

In past threads I've read that people say SIP (but not IP) suck with wool pads.



I tried SIP+flex 3401+PFW today and after several passes (1pass=east/west) it pulled out all the 2000 grit scratches.



So I'm wondering if people are referring to wool pads OTHER than PFW when they say wool+sip = bad? Or maybe wool+sip+rotary = bad, but wool+sip+flex = good performance?
 
I don't think SIP works too well with PFW. I've started many details using PFW and SIP and I always change to M105 and PFW. It's a combo that compliments each other.



M105 is great to use with a white pad on the PC to remove 2000 grit using the KBM.



As Kevin noted above, be aware of possible filling that can occur with SIP.

I think this is a very real possibility-especially if there are any tracers. Do an IPA wipedown to be sure you really have removed all sanding marks.

Sprayed it down and found 1 itsy bitsy mark. Not bad for my first time with said combo.

Not at all, and even had you found a ton of tracers it wouldn't be your fault. SIP has bitten quite a few of us with it's filling properties. It's still a great product, you just need to go into it knowing what it can and can't do. It will remove 2000 grit marks, it just takes a little doing ime.



Honestly for 1500-2000 grit sanding I just use 105 (most of the time), it normally removes the marring in one pass, maybe two if there are tracers.
 
I tried the original 105 via rotary - back in the day, back when there were a lot of "how to" threads on that. I never did get the learning curve, maybe you can't teach an old dog afterall. But, after selling both rotary and bottle of 105, I bought a Flex and Menzerna Power Gloss, SIP, IP, 203, and FFII - with that line up, I haven't had any issues correcting paint yet.



Find a product that fits your style, one that you're comfortable with and one that you pretty much can use blindfolded after a while.
