SIP and M105

Are these the basically the same or is 105 a lot more of a compound? Would it be stupid to have SIP and M105? I already have 106ff, is SIP not needed?
 
105 has a lot more cut than SIP, a lot. 105 is a heavy cutting compound, SIP is a moderate cut at best. I don't think it's silly to have both at all. I know a lot of guys go from 105 right to 106ff, but I think having all three is smart. That pretty much takes you from a very heavy cut to an ultra fine polish.
 
For deep swirls that would require multiple hits of SIP, I use M105 instead. It has a very very fast working time and a cuts great. When 106ff doesnt cut it(no pun intended) than I use SIP, and if needed I move up to M105.

Well said. But now that I think about it, I really don't get much more cut with 105 over SIP via a twisted wool pad...if I make one extra pass with the SIP, I get about the same defect removal...the SIP via a twisted wool pad is amazing!

PG isn't popular because there are a host of items cheaper that finish down better than PG. M105 being one of those that will polish out deeper scratches than PG could ever do and finish to a level where you could use a final polish and move onto your LSP.
 
MPG used to be my favorite compound. Then I used M105. No contest. M105 finishes so much better and doesn't dust. MPG dusts like crazy.

There aren't that many compounds that cut more than PG, and I think it actually finishes down ok for the cut. But I hate the way it dusts. For me it wasn't before M105 arrived that it has become obsolete.

I'm gonna jump on this bandwagon and order m105!



Question for those who have used it: can you expect to go straight from 105 to 106FF with good results? I very much prefer to have no more than two polishing steps.

IMHO, the following products have more cut then Power Gloss...

I am sure there are many more out there, but I don't find Power Gloss to cut very much at all (compared to the others I have listed). If M105 was a 10, I would be hard pressed to even give PG a 6. However, IMO, it still has place.

A qualified "yes"... Getting the technique down with 105 is the tricky part. I'm still learning it, and I can't get it to finish down really nice 100% of the time yet. When you do get it to finish down correctly, you could even jump to PO85RD and skip 106 most of the time. Yeah, it finishes *that* nice. When you don't quite get it to finish off really well, on most clears you could go right to 106. UF is a good choice, too.

Thanks Supe. So if I understand you correctly, even if you don't finish 105 off that great, 106FF should clean it up on most clears?

Yup, that's correct. 106 or UF. Either one will clean up after 105 very nicely. The advantage with UF being that it's much faster than 106.
